Sub-Varsity Basketball
In what would prove to be a second half battle the JV Bears were defeated 40-36 last Tuesday night in Brownsboro. Playing against Sabine the teams were tied with 1:30 left in the third quarter setting up an exciting final period of play. Keith Johnson sparked the Bears early in the fourth rebounding well on both ends of the floor. The teams traded leads in the period before the Cardinals managed to keep the lead with under a minute left to play.
Johnson led the Bears in scoring with 9 points. James Thomas nailed a three for the Bears. Freshman Bears With a 43-34 win last Tuesday night in Brownboro the Freshman Bears improved to 2-0 on the season. Hosting Sabine the Bears outscored the Cardinals 14-3 in the first period before taking a halftime lead of 24-8. Sabine rallied back in the second half outscoring the Bears 26-19 but Brownsboro managed to hold on for the win.
For the second consecutive game the Bears were led in scoring by Jacob McCarthy. McCarthy scored 16 points and nailed two 3 pointers. Jonathon Thompson also hit a three for the Bears. JV Bearettes Continuing the tradition of excellent Junior Varsity play the Bearettes improved their record to 5-0 last week with wins over Rains and Ennis. Hosting Rains on Monday the Bearettes dominated the first half 22-9. Leading the Bearettes in scoring was Sabrina Bradley with 20 points.
Playing in Ennis on Tuesday the Bearettes won by the score of 45-32. Brownsboro again dominated in the first half taking a 26-9 lead into halftime. LaCandace Bell led the girls in scoring with 16 points. Bradley also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points. Stefani Vause hit a three for Brownsboro. Freshman Bearettes After have an entire week off the Freshman Bearettes played on back to back nights last week. Playing host to Rains last Monday the Bearettes won a close battle by the score of 37- 33. The Brownsboro win improved their season record to 2- 0. Montya Hightower led the Freshman in scoring with 13 points. Chelsea Chambers nailed 2 threes in the second period. for Brownsboro.
Not enjoying the close game the Bearettes blew out Ennis on Tuesday night 47- 15. Nakia Roberts led the girls in scoring with 15 points. Eight Bearettes scored in the win. |
