Union Hill Baptist News Tonight, Thursday the 7th, folks will gather in fellowship hall for the monthly Senior Moments. Mr. Boyd's Sunday school class will be joining the regulars, who participate in Senior Moments, for a Christmas party at that time. If you are planning to attend, please bring snacks and a "white elephant" gift for the exchange. As in the past, this will be a fun time. December 7th is also Pearl Harbor Day, when we pause to remember those who lost their lives on the clear December morning and in the terrible war that followed. Many of us are old enough to still remember that dreadful day. For those of you who have not yet finished decorating your tree, remember that Janet Kiker's Sunday school class has spent the last few weeks making ornaments which would look lovely on any tree. The ornaments are $2.50 each and the kids have decided to donate all proceeds from the sale to needy children around the area. That makes the handiwork even more special. Twenty-one of our folks took the church bus to the Brownsboro/Pilot Point game to support our Bears. This time we hope to fill up the bus and van too, with Union Hill's fans who love the Brownsboro Bears and will surely be yelling for their team! Go Bears! Sunday morning, Kingdom Kare, which has nine students, two teachers and one volunteer, honored that volunteer, Angela Northcutt recently. To know Angela is to love her. The Union Hill Christmas program in song will be presented on Sunday evening, December 10th, led by Steve Goodrich. The following Sunday evening, December 17th, the children will have the evening service, presenting their Christmas program. Sunday evening services start at 6:00 p.m. and we cordially invite you to attend these two special presentations. Speaking of a special presentation, at the Sunday evening service our Pastor, Brother Bill portrayed Zechariah who, in his own words, told of his encounter with the angel Gabriel, the period of Elizabeth's pregnancy when he could not speak and the birth of his son, John. It was an awesome service, unique in its presentation, stirring in its message. When Brother Bill steps into the pulpit to deliver his message, it is always special. He's been our pastor for thirteen years. I wonder now, just how many members realized back in 1993, when Brother Bill said, "yes," just what a blessing we were about to receive. You could search far and wide and you would not find one more dedicated to his calling or more genuinely devoted to his flock. He, along with his adorable wife, Ms. Charlie are trusted friends, confidantes and counselors, tirelessly giving of themselves to whatever situation arises. God's blessing has had a ripple effect that has spread throughout our community touching and changing lives. Thank you God for the shepherd you sent us. The Wheels of Mercy rode to the Baptist Children's Home in Waxahachie Saturday taking gifts to the teenage residents and reported receiving a wonderful blessing for their efforts. If you would like to contribute to Christmas for a child at the home, get in touch with Scott or Susan Shinn. They once again have lists available for your selection to do just that. The holidays are sometimes unbearably lonely for an adult who is alone, and as Scott said, just think how lonely it can be for a child. It takes so little to make a difference. We pray that the holidays are happy for you, not lonely. Don't feel like you're alone. You're not, you know. Come join us. We have a big loving church family who would just love to have you. We pray you'll all be safe, and for those of you traveling to the game Friday, we pray God will watch over you. Bye for now. |
