Santa coming to Parkside Shores It's two down and six to go. In an effort to raise funds to improve their subdivision's streets members of the Parkside Shores Home Owners Association have been hard at it with garage sales, a Hawaiian luau, Harvest Festival, spaghetti suppers, fish frys, bake sales, car washes, you name it. "The streets are in pretty bad condition, right now," said Parkside Shores HOA Director Nancy James. "There are a lot of pot holes we have had to fill in with cement." Mrs. James said the Parkside Shores HOA has already raised $10,000 in order to pay county workers to repave two of the roads - Poolside and Creekside. Total cost was $10,263. With eight streets in the subdivision, the HOA still has a ways to go. "We have tried to raise as much as we could," she said. "The county came in and did them. We just have to raise the money ourselves. " Now, with Christmas just around the corner Parkside Shores residents have turned their thoughts to holiday activities and hope to collect some donations for furthering their street repair endeavors. On Saturday, December 16, beginning at 11 a.m., Santa Claus will make an appearance at Parkside Shores. All kids are invited to ride with Santa in a parade through the subdivision. Upon returning to the park everyone will have lunch. The event is free and all are welcome. "We will be serving baked ham or fried chicken with lots of side dishes, delicious desserts with tea or coffee," Mrs. James said. "All this is free to everyone, however a little donation to our road fund is always appreciated." During the luncheon and afterwards folks will be entertained with live music and can sing along to good old country music and even some gospel songs to get everyone into the Christmas spirit. Santa will be available to hear everyone's secret Christmas wishes. You can even sit on his knee and have your photo taken with him. So come on out to Parkside Shores for some Christmas fun and fellowship, and help out the folks who are working to make Parkside Shores a better place to live. "Everything helps," said Mrs. James. "It it's a dollar or a hundred dollars. We appreciate everything. " |
