Bearettes stumbling heading into Shootout
Last Tuesday night the Bearettes lost in overtime to Henderson 50-47. Brownsboro started the game out in dominate fashion, outscoring the Lady Lions 18- 8 in the first period. Using the press defense the Lions rallied back in the second period outscoring Brownsboro 13-7 and cutting the Bearettes halftime lead to four points, 25-21. In the second half of play the Lady Lions continued to play press defense, causing the Bearettes problems offensively. Taking a 37-28 lead into the final period the Bearettes seemed in control of their own destiny. Henderson forced several Brownsboro turnovers in the fourth period using the press defense to force the game into overtime. After winning the opening tip of the overtime period the Lady Lions put the first points of the period on the board and never looked back. Henderson held the lead the entire overtime period to go on for the 50-47 win. Leading the Bearettes in scoring against the Lady Lions was Chelsey Chimney with 21 points. Chimney scored in every period including overtime. Danica Edwards hit the only three of the game for Brownsboro. After the home loss to Henderson the Bearettes participated in the Winnsboro Tournament last Thursday. Brownsboro lost the opening game to Clarksville 57-30 before falling out of the tournament with a 51-38 loss to North Lamar. Danica Edwards led the Bearettes in scoring during the tournament with 20 points in two games. The Bearettes will host the Great East Texas Shootout this weekend in Brownsboro. The girls first game is Thursday morning at 10:30 against West Rusk in the High School gym. If the Bearettes win they will play again at 6pm on Thursday night in the high school gym. If the Bearettes lose they will play Friday at 9am in the Junior High gym.
