Sub-Varsity Basketball

Freshman Bearettes

Through 10 games of the 2006-07 basketball season the Freshman Bearettes have a record of 6-4 after three games last week.

Last Tuesday the Bearettes traveled to Emory and were defeated 34-19 by Rains. Megan Hain led Brownsboro in scoring with 7 points.

Following their excursion to Emory the Bearettes travelled to Jacksonville to play in tournament action.

In the opening game the Bearettes lost 30-20 to the host team, Jacksonville. Montoya Hightower led the Bearettes in scoring with 10 points.

To conclude their three game stretch the Bearettes defeated Lindale 34-22. Catie Collins led the Bearettes in scoring with 7 points.

Brownsboro’s next game will be December 28 in the Bearette Double Header beginning at 12 noon.

JV Bearettes

Tradition continues for the Brownsboro Junior Varsity Bearettes basketball team as they once again won the Grace Community Tournament.

Prior to the tournament the Bearettes defeated Rains 36-20 in Emory. Sabrina Bradley led the girls in scoring with 19 points.

Opening the tournament the Bearettes defeated Frankston by the score of 45-16. Brownsboro held Frankston to eight points or less in every period. Bradley led the team in scoring with 21 points.

Round two against Canton proved to be a little tougher for the Bearettes. Brownsboro won the close contest 36-30. Once again Bradley led the team in scoring with 17 points.

In the championship game the Bearettes faced off against Van and won easily 43-29. Bradley scored 17 while Synola Harmon scored 11 for the victorious Bearettes. Bradley was 11-14 from the free throw line against Van.

Freshman Bears

In back to back tournaments the Freshman Bears basketball team has rolled past the competition winning all six games played.

Playing in the Kemp tournament to end November the Bears rolled past Ferris 78-16 scoring 18 or more points each period. Jacob McCarthy led the Bears in scoring with 19 points. McCarthy nailed 5 three pointers in the game. Austin Adair also had a three for the Bears.

In their second and final game of the Kemp tournament the Freshman blew past Kemp 51-24 as Brett Ralson led the team in scoring with 15 points.

Henderson was the Bears first victim in the Tatum tournament this past weekend as the Bears won 49-31. McCarthy led the team in scoring with 19 points. He nailed 4 three pointers. James Cofer also hit one from downtown for the Bears.

Austin Adair scored 12 points as did Brett Ralson to lead the Bears past Tatum 50- 30 in round two of the tournament.

For the fifth consecutive tournament game Jacob McCarthy nailed a three as the Bears defeated Jefferson 56- 51. McCarthy scored a tournament team high 25 points in the win, nailing a three in every period for six on the game.

Brett Ralson led the fourth period charge against Jefferson with 8 points as the teams were tied at 40 headed into the period.

With the championship on the line the Bears met up with Pine Tree in round four. In what would be their closest game of the tournament the Bears pulled out a one point win 30-29.

Zack Bailey led the Bears in scoring with 11 points and Tyler Rogers added a three.

The Bears will return to action Tuesday, December 19 at Edgewood.
