Bearettes fall fast in annual tourney

Trying to rebuild after last years State Finalist basketball team the Bearettes found the rebuilding process can be rather unpleasant as they lost three of four games played last week.
Opening the week on the road the Bearettes fell to Rains by the score of 37-33.
Entering the final period the game was deadlocked at 30 before the Wildcats outscored Brownsboro 7-3 in the period. Chelsey Chimney led the Bearettes in scoring with 11 points.
Following the loss to Rains the Bearettes hosted West Rusk in the opening round of the Great East Texas Shootout.
In simple fashion the Bearettes defeated Rusk by the score of 43-27. Bianca Mosley led the Bearettes in scoring with nine points, scoring at least a point in every period. Brittany Lee hit the only three of the game for Brownsboro.
Riding high after the win the Bearettes championship hopes were quickly dashed as they lost a close game to Clarksville 42-39. Clarksville is ranked 11th in Class 2A.
Brownsboro led after the first period and managed to draw within three points during the fourth period.
Down by 3 with less than thirty seconds remaining Danica Edwards forced a
Lady Tiger turnover to give the Bearettes possession of the ball. Seconds later Chimney was fouled as her shot fell through the net to move the Bearettes within one.
Chimney’s free throw attempt was no good leaving the Bearettes trailing with twenty seconds to play.
After two successful free throws by Clarksville the Bearettes answered right back as Chimney scored two.
Down by one, 39-40, with nine seconds to go the Bearettes were forced to foul. Clarksville nailed both shots for the win.
Chimney led the Bearettes in scoring with 18 points. Brittany Lee and Monica Redfearn each hit a three for the Bearettes. Redfearn’s three came as time expired in the first period.
Brownsboro lost to Whitehouse to complete tournament action.
Winnsboro captured the tournament crown with a 57- 56 win over Loyola (La.). Winnsboro is ranked number one in Class 2A.
The Bearette double header will take place December 28 and 29 beginning at noon each day. Varsity games begin at 5:30pm.
SCHEDULE CHANGE: The Bearettes (3-8) will play Wednesday at 3pm in against Westwood in the Grand Saline Tournament. The Annual TVCC tournament the Bearettes have won the past two seasons was canceled.
