Varsity Bearettes crowned champs of the Grand Saline tournament

Overcoming a rough start to begin the season, things are looking up for the Bearettes as they have won four straight.

Playing last Tuesday in the land of “Pilgrim’s Pride” the Bearettes defeated Pittsburg in dominate fashion 54-18.

Brownsboro outscored Pittsburg 20-2 in the first period of play enroute to the win. Leading the Bearettes in scoring was Chelsey Chimney with 14 points.

Brittany Lee (12) and Bianca Mosley (11) each scored in double figures. All 12 of Lee’s points came from behind the three point line as she nailed 4 three pointers. Monica Redfearn and Malleri McGee also had three’s.

After the TVCC Tournament was canceled due to a lack of teams the Bearettes played in the Grand Saline Tournament last Thursday through Saturday.

Opening the tournament with Westwood the Bearettes played strong defense to take a 46-18 victory.

Monica Redfearn made 2 threes and led the Bearettes in scoring with 8 points.

Facing Mineola in the secwas ond game of the tournament the Bearettes were led in scoring by Bianca Mosley with 26 points.

Mosley and the Bearettes defeated Mineola 51-31 to advance to the championship game against the host team, Grand Saline.

Mosley again dominated both ends of the floor for the Bearettes as Brownsboro rolled to a 59-35 win over Grand Saline.

With her outstanding play in the tournament Mosley was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Mosley scored 14 points in the championship game.

Also scoring in double figures in the game against Grand Saline was Malleri McGee with 11 points including a three.

Kelly Miller was named to the All-Tournament team.

Improving their season record to 7-9 the Bearettes will host the Bearette Double Header on Thursday, December 28 and Friday, December 29. Brownsboro will play at 7:00pm both days.

Other games in the double header include Canton vs Whitehouse freshman noon Thursday, Brownsboro vs Poyner 1:15pm Thursday, Brownsboro JV vs Grace 3:00pm Thursday, Canton vs Whitehouse JV 5:30pm followed

by Canton vs Whitehouse Varsity Thursday

at 5:30pm. Friday the action will again begin at noon with the freshman Bearettes playing Whitehouse. Brownsboro’s JV plays Whitehouse at 3:00pm and the Varsity Bearettes play Whitehouse at 7:00pm.

The Bearettes have a bye on January 3 before opening District 14-3A play on Friday, January 5 against Van.

Brownsboro has won the district championship two years running.
