Letter To The Editor

You may have noticed some new decorations up and down Hwy. 31 in Brownsboro this year. We should thank Carol Mayfield and Brenda Richardson of the Brownsboro Economic and Development Committee for responding to a last minute request to get those together.

I would like to say Thank You to the Hometown Heroes for the success of their efforts this year providing toys and clothing for kids and food for families. And thank you to all the supporters who donated the merchandise as well as the monetary contributions. And also, “Thank You” Susan Carver for your tireless dedication putting it all together. If it were not for you it would not have happened.

It was so good to see the smiling thankful faces showing up to get the gifts.

And it was good to see the Hometown Heroes in their firetruck and police car going around town handing out fruit bags donated by Y’s Hometown Grocery.

It’s a great thing when cities, towns, communities and individuals can come together in a way that provides so much for those in need.

I heard it was said by someone once that they don’t do things like that because they don’t have needy in their town. Sounds like to me someone needs to see more of their town. I challenge them or anyone to find one place or person in this world that needs nothing. If by some chance there is someone or someplace then I can promise you this, it’s ONLY by the GRACE OF GOD they don’t, and that should be even more reason for them to want to give back.

The Bible says we were born into this world sinners.

It’s my belief we were born into this world “NEEDY” as well. Over two thousand years ago Jesus came into this world on Christmas morning and left it on Easter morning thirty-three years later. I feel like that even though He came pure and left pure, he too was “NEEDY,” at least by my definition of the word. The word “NEEDY” is not defined only by money, toys, clothing or food. It comes in the form of prayer, love, friendship, family, jobs and many more things too numerous to list.

I’ve said it often, and so often it still is still not said enough, “THANK GOD FOR KIDS,” who grow up to be the kind of adults who still, THANK GOD FOR KIDS.

I hope each and every one had a very Merry Christmas. I also hope the year 2007 brings you enough prosperity to fill every one of your NEEDS including the Need to help the ‘Needy,” no matter who they are or where they are.

Glen Vest, Brownsboro
