Hendrix returns to the classroom

When E.D. “Dee” Hendrix retired from his Department of Sciences teaching position at Brownsboro High School last May, he returned to a former career, spending the next six months re-activating his Real Estate-related businesses put on hold when he joined the BHS faculty in 1994, American Property Evaluation Consultants - TEXAS, Environmental Research Associates and Texas Research Group. He holds a Texas Real Estate Broker’s license, is a Real Estate appraiser and REALTOR enjoying the benefits of professional membership in the National Association of REALTORS, Texas Association of REALTORS and the Greater Tyler Association of REALTORS.

Although he plans to continue operating his Real Estate firms, Hendrix says, “I’m ready to return to the classroom. Teaching has always been my highest calling; and I’m looking forward to be working once more in the educational setting. I’m also excited

about again being a member of TVCC’s adjunct Real Estate faculty where I taught for a ten-year period during the 1990s.”

In November Mr. Hendrix contracted with Trinity Valley Community College in Athens to chair its newly re-activated Department of Real Estate. As a teacher for Community Services (Adult Continuing Education), Hendrix will teach the first in a series of oil and gas seminars in mid-January, 2007, followed by eleven different Real Estate courses promulgated by the Texas Real Estate Commission. “These courses,” Hendrix said, “are those required by the State of Texas for licensure for Real Estate Salesmen and Brokers.” They will be offered as three-day, thirtycontact hour classes beginning with Principles of Real Estate I, scheduled for January 16-18 and taught on TVCC’s Terrell campus. Successful students will earn Continuing Education College Credit for each course completed.

Terms & Tools of Oil & Gas, the “nuts and bolts” course for novice Landmen or for anyone wishing to become familiar with Texas’ oil and gas industry is scheduled for January 13-14, Saturday and a half-day on Sunday at the Athens campus. Two guest teachers, both experts in their fields, will also have a part in this seminar. Those wishing to register should call TVCC’s Community Services at 903- 675-6212. Seating is limited, so reserve your spot NOW! “At this telephone number a coordinator will also be available to register a student for the Real Estate courses,” according to Hendrix.

“Some folk are lecturers, some are presenters, but I’m a TEACHER,” said Hendrix, “and in that is the difference. I’m committed to producing LEARNERS and not simply seminar attendees,” he added. “These classes are promised to be educational as well as entertaining as my style of

teaching calls for studentteacher interaction and the presentation of UNDERSTANDING as well as knowledge along with material not found in the textbooks. Within the first thirty minutes, if you’re not learning,” Hendrix stated, “and having fun doing so, you need to be home-schooling or finding your courses on the internet.” He doesn’t recommend either of these as the benefits of “face-to-face” instruction are lost in the options.

Should a prospective student have comments or questions, he might call Community Services at the above telephone number or be in touch with Dee Hendrix at 903-852-6118. TVCC’s Spring Catalog of Courses is now available and may be had by calling the college or viewing on the Internet. Out-of-area callers may dial 1.800.882.2937 toll-free. Additional information is on TVCC’s website, www. tvcc.edu and on Hendrix’s site, www.landman basics.com.
