Bears win Consolation
against Carthage last Thursday the Bears rallied back from a 19 point deficit in the fourth period before falling 71-59. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Bears 44-22 during the game and had 19 point leads three different times. With 2:03 remaining in the game the Bears cut the Bulldogs lead to four points but were unable to come any closer. Brownsboro was led in scoring by Colin Thompson with 11 points. Andrew Pollard also scored in double figures with 10 points. Ryan Smith and Ricco Richards each added 8 points for the Bears. Following their first round loss the Bears played District 14-3A opponent Canton on Friday afternoon. Brownsboro won the opening tip but it was the Eagles who got on the board first. Using a press defense the Eagles maintained a slim lead the entire first period ending the period leading 11-8.
In the second half of play the Bears came out firing. Brownsboro scored first and rallied back to within one point of the Eagles by periods end. In the fourth period the Bears would take control of the game as they went on a 13-0 scoring run the first 3 minutes of the final period. Leading 58-46 the Bears overcame an 8-0 run by the Eagles to advance to the Consolation final with the 72-63 win. Keaton Parsell led the Bears in scoring with 18 points. Ryan Smith scored 12 points and had 3 rebounds. Ricco Richards recorded 4 steals, a blocked shot and 8 points. Four Bears nailed a three pointer in the win. Colin Thompson, Seth Martin, Ryan Smith and Andrew Adair all had a three. On Saturday the Bears faced off against another District 14-3A opponent, Athens. Brownsboro started the game off slow but rallied in the fourth period outscoring the Hornets 20-7 to win 46-39. Nine Bears scoring in the game with Andrew Adair leading all scorers with 11 points. Joe Denney and Colin Thompson each hit a three in the win.
The Bears (10-6) will be in Crandall this Friday night before hosting Mabank to wrap up non-district play next Tuesday. Each game is set to begin at 7:30pm. |
