1st Baptist Church of Chandler
By Joanne Davis

Now that the holidays have passed by and the children are back in school, we all face the New Year.

Are there leftovers still crowding your refrigerator? Time to get rid of them and clean out the "fridge."

Do you still find wrapping paper, ribbons and bows in every nook and cranny each time you clean? Sweep them out!

Our lives also can always use a good "cleaning" as well. How has your life with Christ been lately? Are you spending less time reading your Bible and praying?

Start the New Year off right! Set aside a special time each day to spend with the Lord, meditating on His Word and in Prayer with Him. I find the early morning is the best time for me. The phone isn't ringing off the hook nor is there a lot of neighborhood noises to distract me.

If you are out of the habit, try just a few minutes to start. As you get more comfortable with this routine, you will find yourself increasing your time with the Lord.

If you are looking for a guide to reading the Bible, the "Open Windows" offers both a daily Bible reading along with a short devotional as well as a "Read the Bible Through" guide.

Check with your Sunday School Teacher for a copy. Let's all get in the habit of spending time daily with our Lord.

Upcoming events include our Discovery Sunday on January 21st, which will be a "high attendance" day.

Come, attend a Sunday School Class and see what you have been missing. We have several classes, including a College and Career Class, a ladies Bible Study Class, a Senior ladies class and several others geared to all age groups. That Sunday, immediately following church, we will be having a church wide fellowship.

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday! Ladies, this means NO COOKING DINNER for you. Just come eat and enjoy the fellowship of your Christian Brothers and Sisters.

On Monday, January 22nd, we will be holding our initial VBS Kickoff Meeting at 6:30 p.m., in the H.O.P.E. Fellowship Hall. Be sure to get involved!

We will again be holding VBS in the evening as we did last year and we are planning to have another adult class (hopefully led by Doug Williams) again this year.

Right now it is planning time! Come join in and get ready for a fun filled VBS this year.

Do you have a church home? If not, we welcome you to join us any Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m., for Sunday School and at 11:00 a.m., for our morning worship. Please come join us anytime.

Our Sunday evening services are held at 6:00 p.m., and our Wednesday evening services begin at 6:30 p.m.

Remember our Discovery Sunday that I mentioned above?

Well come join us for that service and join us for the wonderful fellowship meal which will follow. We would love to have you join us.
