Lake Palestine U.M.C. Greetings from the Church on the Lake. We were thankful for the rainfall Saturday night and for the sunshine Sunday morning. We have all enjoyed a great holiday season and look forward to the new year ahead and have new plans and projects to work on. Our old year ended with a disaster on December 29 when a tornado struck Poynor and did a great deal of damage. Fred and Trudy Riddle drove down on Saturday and saw the damage left in its wake. They got people from our church and the Chandler Lions Club started on cleanup on Saturday afternoon, and have had workers there every day except Thursday, Jan. 4. Our ladies of the church responded with food to provide a hot meal at lunch time, and on Wednesday had about 100 people for lunch with the help of the Lions Club and the UMC in Frankston did the meal on Friday, Jan. 5. The Poynor area had no injuries or deaths and were so glad for the help we have been able to give them. We continue to pray for them as they start rebuilding their homes and lives. January is also the beginning of our Angel Food Ministry. For information about this monthly ministry, contact Mary Ann Whisenhunt at 903-849- 4469 and she can tell you about the new ministry and answer your questions. We start back with the usual meetings and classes this week with the United Methodist Men's monthly Breakfast and meeting on Saturday, January 13 at 8:00 a.m. We pray for our World Leaders and for Peace and for their safety and that of our young men and women serving in the armed forces. Congratulations and best wishes go out to all who are having anniversaries and birthdays this week, and our love and prayers go out to all who are ill and facing surgeries and tests. We send our sympathy, love and prayers out to the bereaved, especially to the family of Gary and Nancy Brown in the passing of Dale Brown, Sunny's grandfather. God bless all of you. |
