A BISD Musical Review
by Summer Hulsey

The Final Curtain Players will begin "Dancing Through Life" January 19 and 20, at 7:30pm, in the Brownsboro High School Theater located behind Bear Stadium. This play was both brought to life and arranged by senior Tristan Shay.

"I didn't want a show that was just a bunch of songs; I wanted to present it as a musical with an actual story line," Shay said.

The songs performed in this "Way off Broadway" show originate from many different original Broadway plays including "Evita" and "Wicked."

"I chose these songs not only for a sense of diversity, but because these are all songs you can have fun performing, " Shay said.

Fellow senior Summer Hulsey is the assistant director and costume coordinator.

"It has been a lot of fun and a great challenge both directing and costuming my peers," she said.

Summer, who directed a junior high play that competed in the East Texas State Fair earlier this year also found it "...truly difficult to be authoritative when working with one's peers."

When asked his feelings towards his play, Tristan replied honestly and with a great deal of excitement.

"It's an interesting story and I'm very proud of it," he said. "I've never written anything like this and sometimes I'm still surprised I did. I can't wait to see this finished product. It's always fascinating to discover what you can transfer from your mind to paper."

This play is possibly the beginning of a new tradition for the Final Curtain Players. Teacher Wayne Innerarity hasn't been holding the hand of his students during this production.

"This is one of my goals from last year, to get students more involved with the different aspects of the show, both on and off stage," Innerarity said. "There is a growing need for more student driven activities."

The Musical Review will keep you on the edge of your seat and wondering what hidden talent will be unearthed before your very eyes. Be prepared to be dazzled by the talent and sheer determination of these kids. Don't miss it!
