Friends & Flowers
by Dixie Taylor

"What Makes A Garden Club?

-- Like a beautiful rose --

The stem is members, strong and carrying the load from the roots to the bloom.

The leaves are the committees, giving food and strength to the bloom.

The petals are officers that surround the center, which is the president.

Looking back on what all the Garden Club did in 2006 brings back some wonderful memories of what belonging is all about. The "Friends" are women who love flowers and who have the main ingredient for being happy, and that is "devoted friendship."

On January 3, 2007, Lou Gossett had the garden club ladies in her home for lunch and an afternoon of just sitting around and visiting. She and Carol Blakely were activity planners for the month. The weather was just right for soup, so Lou prepared vegetable and cream of potato soups, served with cornbread, for all to enjoy. For party favors, each member was given a small vase with a crocus bulb.

We "Friends and Flowers" ladies are looking forward to another fun-filled and informative year, while we from time to time will be attending gardening seminars, visiting public gardens and learning among ourselves the joys of gardening.

Here's wishing you all a very Blessed and Happy New Year from members Martha Hardwick, Dixie Taylor, Jean Dean, Bobbie Sparks, Murlene Wommack, Sara Taylor, Dixie McLean, Nettie Jo McLean, Rosemary Parmley, Sandy Williams, Wanda McCreary, Billy Barker, Joyce Jordan, Mary Williams, Doris Langston, Jannie Parker, Anna Mae Williams, Iva Williams, Carol Blakely and Lou Gosset.
