Varsity Bears down Canton Eagles 76-61 to open District 14-3A play

Brownsboro improved to 12-8 on the season as they walked into Canton last Friday night and dominated the Eagles to open District 14- 3A play.
The Bears won the opening tip and scored first before they found themselves trailing 8-4 with five minutes remaining in the first period.
With less than five minutes remaining in the first period the Bears offense came alive outscoring the Eagles 21-3. The Bears outscored the Eagles 25-11 in the first period. Tristian Warren led the Bears in scoring in the first period with seven points.
Canton still had problems slowing down the Bears offense in the second period as the Bears scored 17 period points. Using a press defense the Bears held the Eagles to 12 period points to take a 42-23 lead into halftime.
Starting the second half the Eagles looked to attempt a comeback as they opened up the period outscoring the Bears 6-0. Using a press defense the Eagles climbed to within 12 points of the Bears, 40-52, with 3 minutes to play in the third.

Halting an Eagle comeback, the Bears scored the final 11 points of the third period to take a 63-40 lead into the fourth period.
Leading by 23 the Bears overcame an onslaught of Canton three pointers in the fourth period to win 76-61 in the District 14-3A opener.
Three Bears hit double figures in scoring as Colin Thompson led the way with 14 points. Thompson nailed two first half three pointers. The other two Bears to reach double figures in scoring were Joe Denney (13) and Tristian Warren (14).
Prior to defeating the Eagles the Bears lost a nailbiter in Mabank by the score of 51-48.
Brownsboro trailed after the first period of play before rallying back in the second period to tie the game at 21 heading into the half.
The teams battled back and forth in the third period and still were tied headed into the final period of play.
In the fourth period the Panthers managed to outscore the Bears by three to win 51-48.
Brownsboro was led in scoring by Ryan Epperson with 13 points. Colin Thompson made the only three pointer of the game for the Bears.
The Bears (12-8,1-0) traveled to Bullard (8-14,0-1) on Tuesday and will host Athens in Brownsboro at 7:30pm on Friday.
Bullard was blown out by TBAC ranked #5 Chapel Hill to open district play 61- 31. Athens defeated Van 67- 56 on Friday and is 7-12, 1- 0 on the year heading into Tuesday's contest.
