Letter To The Editor Dear Editor, I have something I need to say and I was hoping you would help me say it to the whole town. My message is simple: Thieves come in all colors! I work in a store that was recently broken into. The concern of our customers is great, and we appreciate the support of those who offer sympathy. However, there are several people, when told about the incident, who immediately ask me "Was he black?" or say, "I bet he was black." I am sickened every time I hear this question because it is simply not fair. The fact is that this store has been broken into several times and including the most recent, four of those criminals were Caucasians. These small town racists do not surprise me for I have been subjected to the ignorance of many people who are convinced that they have the right to judge. I am appalled at those who claim to be Christians, and it saddens me to hear people say such vile things about innocent people. I have nothing against the Christians of this town or any followers of any religion, for that matter, but if you talk the talk, you must walk the walk. That means going by God's word and accepting all people as your brothers. we were all created as one race, the human race, and if you choose to display that shining cross around your neck and claim that you live by the loving word of God, you had better be prepared to explain yourself to him when he asks you if you have loved your brothers equally and without judgment. Please remember it is not your place to judge, only to live the life you have been blessed with and live it right. Therefore, the next time you try to guess who the criminal is in such a case, try looking at the many, many men and women in this town who are at this moment smoking crack or injecting meth. Look at them and you will see white, black, Hispanic ... etc. Concerned about our souls, F. Holloway |
