Second half of district play awaits Bearettes
Brownsboro enters the home stretch of district play with a 2-3 record

Finishing the first half of District 14-3A play with a loss to Athens last Friday the Bearettes are tied for third place.
Athens stands in first place with a perfect 5-0 record in district play while Canton is in firm grasp of second place with a 4-1 dis- trict record.
Brownsboro, Bullard and Van are all tied for third place with a district record of 2-3.
Playing in Bullard last Tuesday the Bearettes defeated the Lady Panthers by the score of 55-47.
The Bearettes controlled most of the game after taking a 15-8 first period lead. Leading Brownsboro in scoring with 16 points was Bianca Mosley. Also scoring in double figures for the Bearettes was Malleri McGee (15) and Chelsey Chimney (14).
After their win in Bullard the Bearettes headed home to face off against Athens on Friday.
Brownsboro won the opening tip before Athens put the first points of the game on the board. Quickly Athens took a 5-0 lead before a Bearette timeout.
Following the timeout the Bearettes found ways to penetrate the Athens press defense to end the first period tied at 15.

In the second period the teams continued to battle back and forth as neither team held a lead very long. By the time the teams broke for the half the game remained tied with a score of 34-34.
In the second half the Bearettes could not withstand the Lady Hornets attack as Athens outscored the Bearettes 26-14 in the third period.
Athens continued to play well into the fourth period as they outscored the Bearettes 19-10. A large part of the Lady Hornets second half success was due to the large amount of Bearette turnovers and their ability to hit three pointers.
For the game the Bearettes turned the ball over 24 times, while Athens only turned the ball over 12 times. Athens nailed 8 three's in the game while the Bearettes managed just one.
Leading the Bearettes in scoring was Monica Redfearn with 17 points. Redfearn nailed the only three pointer of the game for the Bearettes.
Also scoring in double figures for the Bearettes was Chelsey Chimney with 16 points and Malleri McGee with 10 points. Both McGee and Chimney fouled out of the game late in the fourth period.
Brownsboro played Van on Tuesday night to open the second half of District 14- 3A play. Van edged Brownsboro in the teams earlier meeting to open district play before losing their next three games.
The Bearettes will be on the road this Friday in Chapel Hill. In their first match-up the Bearettes dominated the Lady Bulldogs to earn their first win in district play.
Ending the month of January the Bearettes will host Canton on Tuesday, January 30 at 6:00pm.
Brownsboro will conclude the regular season home schedule with Parent's Night on Friday, February 2 against Bullard. The Bearettes final regular season game will be played in Athens on Tuesday, February 6.
