BHS UIL Academic Team place well in tournaments

Twenty-nine members of the Brownsboro High UIL Academic Team attended tournaments held at Athens and Van High Schools.

On Friday and Saturday Jan. 12 and 13, the team traveled to Athens to compete. The results are:

Ready Writing: Eric Orange and Mikey Grace were placed in the top 10 at the Tournament. Out of the schools attending this Tournament from the 14 AAA District, Orange placed 2nd and Grace placed 3rd.

Spelling: At the Tournament: Brenna Lavin placed 9th.

In District: Lavin, 2nd; Michael Perry, 5th; Mikey Grace, 7th; and Anthony Heifner, 8th

The Spelling Team placed 3rd at the Tournament and 2nd in District.

Number Sense: At the Tournament: Logan McCullough placed 7th.

In District: McCullough, 3rd; Zach Shaffer, 4th; Michael Perry, 7th; Muhammed Bilal, 8th; and James Peters, 9th.

Other members of the Number Sense team included Ethan Newell.

The Team placed 3rd at the Tournament and 2nd in the District.

Calculators: Ethan Newell placed 2nd in the District.

Mathematics: At the Tournament: Zach Shaffer placed 5th.

The Mathematics Team placed 4th in the Tournament and 2nd in District.

Science: At the Tournament: Jachym Metlicka placed 4th, and Zach Shaffer placed 8th. Also having an overall score in the top 10 was Juan Macias.

The Science Team placed 2nd at the Tournament and 1st in the District.

Computer Science: Logan McCullough placed 8th in the Tournament, and 2nd in the District.

On Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19 and 20, the Team traveled to Van for competition. Those results are:

In District: Lavin placed 4th.

The Spelling Team placed 4th in the Tournament and 2nd in District.

Current Events: At the Tournament: Juan Macias placed 6th.

In District: Macias, 2nd; Jordan Magee, 6th; and Brenna Lavin, 8th.

The Current Events Team placed 4th in the Tournament and 2nd in District.

Computer Science: In District: Muhammed Bilal placed 3rd and Anthony Heifner placed 5th.

Number Sense: At the Tournament: Jarret McDowell, 6th; and Zach Shaffer, 7th.

In District: McDowell, 3rd; Shaffer, 4th.

The Number Sense Team placed 4th in the Tournament and 8th in District.

Mathematics: At the Tournament: Katy Ereman placed 5th.

In District: Ereman, 3rd; Blake Richardson, 8th; and Zach Shaffer, 9th.

Nathaniel Kuhns was also a member of the Math Team.

Calculators: At the Tournament: Blake Richardson, 3rd; Julie Travis, 9th; and Katy Ereman, 10th.

In District: Richardson, 1st; Travis, 4th; and Ereman, 5th

Other members of the Calculator Team included Marla Pollard.

The Calculator Team placed 2nd in the Tournament and 1st in District.

Science: Jachym Metlicka received the top score award in both Biology and Physics, and placed 1st in the overall Science category.

At the Tournament: in the overall Science category: James Peters, 7th; Muhammed Bilal, 8th; and Juan Macias, 10th.

In District: Metlicka, 1st; Peters, 2nd; Bilal, 3rd; Macias, 4th; and Shaffer, 6th.

Other members of the Science Team included Molly Coleman and Ethan Newell.

The Science Team placed 2nd at the Tournament and 1st in the District.

Newswriting: At the Tournament Haley Smith placed 5th, and in the District she placed 1st.

Feature Writing: At the Tournament Kim Golden placed 5th, and in the District she placed 1st.

Editorial Writing: At the Tournament Emily Williams placed 2nd, and in the District she placed 1st.

Headline Writing: At the Tournament Emily Williams placed 4th, and in District she placed 1st.
