Bears lock up 11 spots on Smoaky.com All-East Texas Team
Last year three Bears made the team for the first time in Brownsboro history. Earning player of the year in 2003 was Palestine's Adrian Peterson a first round NFLdraft pick this season. Underclassmen Ryan Epperson and Cameron Warren each locked up 2 spots on the annual team. Warren was named the 2006 Freshman of the Year and honorable Mention at inside/middle linebacker. Warren was the only player from Brownsboro to earn a superlative award. Other superlatives were; Lennon Creer of Tatum, player of the year; Antowoine Smith of North Lamar, Offensive player of the year; Defensive player of the year went to Sherman Rosborough of Longview. Sophomore Offensive player of the year was awarded to quarterback Brady Attaway from Whitehouse and defensive sophomore of the year was awarded to Kyle Kriegel of Elysian Fields. Coach of the year was Carlisle's Rocky Baker. The All-Smoaky.com Team was selected from 143 high schools in the Great East Texas area. Schools included were 5A-A and some private schools and six-man teams. Smoaky.com invited area fans, coaches and members opinions to select the team unlike many other awards. In an email to David Smoak creator of Smoaky.com Mr.Smoak said, "I'm proud of the young men and coaches honored, and I hope everyone appreciates the effort to select the team." Earning a spot on the first team offense from Brownsboro was Lonnie Edwards (4-Year Starter, 75- Pancake Blocks) as offensive tackle. Ryan Epperson and Logan Bryan each earned a spot on the first team defense. Epperson (176-Tackles, 2-Interceptions, 2-Sacks, 2- Fumble Recoveries, 3-Forced Fumbles) was named as one of two inside linebackers while Bryan (71-Tackles, 10- Interceptions) was named to the team as a nickel back. Other offensive awards brought home by a Bear were Second team offensive guard by Oran Lewis, Fourth Team running back by Ricco Richards (Rushing: 1,288- yards, 21-TD's, Receiving: 372-yards, 5-TD's) and Fourth Team fullback by Ryan Epperson (11-TD's). Jordan Magee (Passing: 1,474-yards, 9-TD's, Rushing: 404-yards, 4-TD's) was named honorable mention as quarterback. Three Bears were named to the Honorable Mention defense on the team. Cameron Warren (133-Tackles, 1-Sack, 3-Fumble Recoveries, 1-Defensive TD) at linebacker, Jonathon Johnson (87-Tackles, 2-Interception, 7-Sacks, 2-Fumble Recoveries, 4- Forced Fumbles) at outside linebacker and Dustin Wilson (2-Interceptions, 1-Int. Return for a TD, 30-Tackles, 1- Forced Fumble, 1-Fumble Recovery) at cornerback. David Smoak also wanted the readers to know, "As with any awards, not everyone will be satisfied, but I promise we did everything possible to get as many nominations as possible, and unlike any All-State or All-Region teams I know of we even ask the public, fans and membership to vote. Unfortunately, someone will be left out, but it wasn't because I didn't try to accommodate every program involved.
