Sub-Varsity Basketball JV Bearettes Scoring in double figures in seven out of eight periods the JV Bearettes rolled through district competition last week. On Tuesday the Bearettes hosted the Van Lady Vandals and won easily 42-19. Synola Harmon and Sabrina Bradley paced the team with 12 points each. In Chapel Hill on Friday the Bearettes defeated the Lady Bulldogs 61-32 behind a 27 point effort by Bradley. LeCandace Bell scored 14 points for the Bearettes including 2 three pointers.
The Bearettes are 22-3 on the season and 6-1 in district play with three games remaining as of Monday. JV Bears In two very close games the JV Bears lose back to back games. Beginning the week at home on Tuesday the Bears mounted a nice early lead before falling to Van 46-48. Charlie Stringer led the Bears in scoring with 16 points. Following their loss at home the Bears traveled to Chapel Hill and trailed early. In the second half the Bears fought back only to fall short, losing 53-49. Broox Nichelson led the team in scoring with 18 points.
With the losses the Bears record is 14-8 on the season and 1-4 in district play. Freshman Bears With a well balanced attack on both the offensive and defensive end the Freshman Bears are dominating their competition. Last Tuesday Brownsboro rolled through Van 61-46 as Jacob McCarthy led the team in scoring with 15 points. Bret Ralson also scored in double figures with 13 points. Friday the Bears defeated Chapel Hill 53-21 as Cameron Warren led the team in scoring with 15 points. Austin Adair had 2 threes in the win.
The Bears record on the season is 20-2 overall and 4- 1 in district play. BJHS Bearettes As district play and the 2006- 2007 season winds down the BJHS Bearettes continue to play well. Playing Bullard last Thursday the 8th grade "A" team won 31- 22 as Hillary Shaffer led the team in scoring with 13 points. The "B" team lost to Bullard by the score of 12-8. In 7th grade action the "A" team was led in scoring by Laquesha Cooper with 14 points in their 40-10 win. The "B" team used outstanding defense to beat Bullard 18-1.
Brownsboro plays in Athens tonight to wrap up the season. They did not play last Tuesday night as Van does not field a girls freshman basketball team but on Friday the Bearettes looked like all-stars against Chapel Hill. Playing in Chapel Hill the Bearettes rolled to a 42-3 win over the Lady Bulldogs. Brownsboro held Chapel Hill scoreless in the first and fourth periods. Chelsea Chambers led the Bearettes in scoring with 12 points including 2 three pointers. Catie Collins also hit a three as part of her 5 points.
Brownsboro's record on the season is 14-5 and a perfect 4-0 in district play. |
