St. Boniface Catholic Church
by Sue Beams

The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time was celebrated at St. Boniface. In all the readings, the ways of God the Father are revealed. We are called to reflect upon the unique mission that God has entrusted to us. This mission is not ability ... it is a gift of God. We are what we are because of His grace. In the Gospel, we read of the amazing catch of fish. That "catch" began with surrender to the Word of God. When we realize the greatness of Jesus Christ and our sinful nature we can heed His call and surrender to His will with reverence. We are never called to judge one another. We remember the work of Mother Teresa; she always realized and recognized Jesus Christ in disguise in the sick and dying, the poor and the lost. Whenever we think something is impossible, especially when we are using our gifts to build up the community, we know anything is possible with God.

There will be a very important general meeting on Saturday, February 10th at 10:00am in the community hall. The meeting is for all committee leaders or representatives. The meeting will consist of approving annual events, budget requirements, and other involvements. Please plan to attend. This is a covered dish lunch event.

That same evening, following the 5:00pm Mass, there will be a Chili Cookoff in the community center. Please sign up to bring your best pot of chili ... you could be the winner!! This is another of the many fundraising events that have been planned by the committee. Our heartfelt thanks to Dalia, Virginia, and all the contributors who make such a success of these events.

The Pastoral Council approved new St. Boniface Objectives based on the recent Church Survey. We need your help to accomplish YOUR requirements for our Church success. Please sign up on any of the new committees on the list provided in the community center. Input is important. Committees need both chairman and members. If you have any questions or need more information, contact the pastoral contact listed beside each church objective.

Reminder: The Church Budget 2007 is being compiled. Please give your committees funding requirements for the year to the Finance Council. The information then will be provided to Dr. Liptak by Feb. 17th, for consideration.

St. Boniface members interested in learning to line dance, are invited every 1st, 2nd, and 4th Saturday following Mass. It is great fun for all!

The Altar Society will meet at 6:30 in the community center on Monday, February 12, 2007. All ladies of the parish are invited to attend.

There will be a special second collection taken at the weekend Masses on February 10th and 11th for Catholic Schools Week. In his message to the diocese, Bishop Corrada spoke of Catholic Education bringing leadership into the person's identity, leadership for family life, business, community and our nation. Please give generously.

Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We ask blessings and comfort for those who are ill and suffering. Remember in prayer the faithful departed. May God continue to watch over the men and women of the armed services as they protect and defend our great nation. God bless and keep each of you!
