Anyone who has put in at the Kickapoo Creek bottoms located next to the FM 315 bridge just south of Chandler, knows the boat ramp/pier is in dire need of repair. Henderson Co. Pct. 3 Commissioner Ronny Lawrence said he has been in touch with a grant coordinator as there is currently no money in the county's budget to repair the pier. Pct. 3 workers attempted to dredge out the cove and temporarily repair the pier, but was unable to finish before the heavy rains. An agreement between Henderson County and the Upper Neches River Municipal Water Authority dated March 3, 1976 states... "The general public shall have free access at all times to the boat ramp and parking area, and the lessee, Henderson County, shall keep the area clean and in good repair and collect and dispose of hazardous wastes..." Lawrence said he hopes repair work will begin by this summer.
