Sub-Varsity Basketball JV Bearettes Sabrina Bradley led the Bearettes in scoring in back to back games as the Bearettes locked up the district title last week in Brownsboro. On Tuesday Bradley scored 17 points in a close game against Canton to lead the Bears to a 38-35 victory. Hosting Bullard on Friday the Bearettes won with ease by the score of 50-28 as Bradley scored 13 points. LeCandace Bell and Synola Harmon also scored in double figures for the Bearettes.
The Bearettes are 24-3 on the season and 8-1 in district play with one remaining as of Monday. JV Bears Opening up the week of district action in front of the home crowd in Brownsboro the Bears rolled to a 48-30 win over the Canton Eagles. Charlie Stringer led the Bears in scoring against Canton with 13 points. Broox Nichelson scored 11 for the Bears, including 3 three pointers. Jeremy Monroe also hit a three for the Bears. On Friday the Bears fell to Bullard by the score of 48-36. Stringer led the Bears in scoring with 16 points.
The Bears record is 15-9 on the season and 2-5 in district play. Freshman Bearettes With back to back wins the Freshman Bearettes claimed the District Championship last week. On Monday the Bearettes overpowered Canton by the score of 35-15. Nine different Bearettes scored in the game. Friday's game against Bullard was not much of a contest as the Bearettes rolled to a 34-13 win. Eight different Bearettes scored in the well balanced attack.
Brownsboro's record on the season is 16-5 and a perfect 6-0 in district play. Athens does not field a freshman team so the Bearettes concluded their season with the sweep. Freshman Bears With ease the Freshman Bears swept the week of district action against Canton and Bullard. Hosting Canton on Tuesday the Bears rolled to a 53-16 win as Jacob McCarthy led the team in scoring with 15 points. McCarthy nailed 3 three pointers while Ryan Cawthon (2) and James Cofer also had threes. Brownsboro won with ease on Friday also as they defeated Bullard 59-22. McCarthy scored a team high 11 points while Cameron Warren also scored in double figures with 10 points.
The Bears record on the season is 22-2 overall and 6- 1 in district play. It was a rough week for the BJHS Bears as they took the court against Athens. The 8th grade "A" team was defeated by the score of 42-29 while the "B" team lost 32-14. In 7th grade action the "A" team fell shy of a win losing to Athens 45-40. Keuntis Thompson led all scorers on the night with 23 points. The "B" team lost 47-14 as Cheston Becknal led the Bears in scoring with 12 points.
