Brookshire's Grocery evacuated following bomb threat

Chandler Police are searching for information that will lead to the arrest of the person +

or persons who placed a bomb threat in the form of a note on the vehicle of a Southside Bank employee Monday night.

According to CPD Chief Ron Reeves, around 8:22 p.m., a female employee of the Southside Bank branch in the Chandler Brookshire's, on Hwy. 31, found a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" Post-It note attached to her windshield when she left for the night.

"It wasn't until she was on her way home she read the note that said, `There's a bomb in your car,'" Reeves said. "She made a phone call to someone who told her to turn around and go back to Brookshire's and call the police."

Upon her return to the store Reeves said the bank employee parked in the front row between the two main doors, went inside and called the police. CPD police officer Tim Jones arrived on the scene, ordered the evacuation of the store and parking lot and called in an agent from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms office, who upon their arrival assessed the situation and called in a bomb sniffing dog from the Fire Marshal's office out of the city of Longview.

"It appears the reason why they took these extra precautions is that a fire at the Brookshire's warehouse in Tyler occurred at the same time," Reeves said. "But it turned out to be a coincidence. "

Both the employee's vehicle as well as a second vehicle were searched as well as the front portion of the store; however nothing was found.

Reeves said the note was taken into evidence, and the case has been turned over to Chandler PD Investigator Jerry Moore.

There are no suspects at this time, Reeves said.

Also on the scene assisting in the investigation was the Henderson County Sheriff's Department and the Chandler Volunteer Fire Department.

Reeves asks that anyone who may have information to contact the Chandler Police Department at 903-849-2181. All callers will remain anonymous.
