Letter to the Editor:

At the Chamber of Commerce Banquet on February 8, the Hometown Heroes in Brownsboro were given a plaque for Organization of the Year.

While we are so grateful, I think mention should be made of the people and businesses who so graciously donated to the Christmas drive, making Hometown Heroes possible.

But first, it should be said we gave toys to 117 children, gave grocery certificates from Y's Grocery to 14 senior citizens in the Brownsboro area, the Echo Springs Blueberry Farm owners made stockings and filled them for each of the 87 residents at the Chandler Nursing Center. And on the cold, rainy Saturday before Christmas, the Brownsboro Fire and Police Departments, with the help of a few private citizens gave fruit and candy to area residents who answered their door when their doorbell rang.

There was a very large money donation made from an anonymous person, toys and money were collected by the VFW in Athens, the Red Bull Saloon in Murchison, and every other business we could get a large wrapped box to.

So, while we here in Brownsboro are so thankful for the recognition, to the people and businesses who made it possible, I would like to give a heartfelt and sincere THANK YOU.
