Bearettes fall to Athens in finale

Chad Wilson Photo FIGHTING FOR ROOM-- Brownsboro's Stormi Kassinger fights for room to rebound the ball during the Bearettes game in Athens last Tuesday to conclude the 2006-07 regular season. Brownsboro finished the regular season with a 5-5 record in District 14-3A.
In their final game of the regular season the Bearettes fell on the road, to Athens.

With the loss the Bearettes record on the season dropped to 13-15 and 5-5 in District 14-3A play.

Athens finished an undefeated district campaign with the 49-36 victory.

In the first period of play the teams battled back and forth each leading a few times in the period before Athens took a slight advantage into the second period.

The Lady Hornets ended the first period with a three pointer and began the second period with three out of four baskets coming from behind the three point line.

With the four three pointers the Hornets managed to pull away from the Bearettes for the remainder of the first half.

Entering the second half trailing by 14 points due in large part to turnovers the Bearettes had an uphill climb awaiting them if they desired to upset the Lady Hornets.

Brownsboro did not gain much ground on the Hornets in the third period but got off to a very hot start in the fourth period.

The Bearettes began the final period with an 8-0 scoring run before Athens scored their first basket of the period at the three minute mark.

Leading by 10, 44-34 with less than three minutes to play the Lady Hornets went into stall mode. Once in stall mode the game became a game of free throws, icing the contest for Athens.

Two Bearettes scored in double figures in the contest. Chelsey Chimney had 16 points and Bianca Mosley added 15 points.

Following the loss the Bearettes had the rest of the week off before playing in Malakoff against Crandall on Monday.
