Bearettes fall to Crandall in Bi-District Round of the playoffs

Chad Wilson Photo BALL FIGHT- Brownsboro's Bianca Mosley and Crandall's Emily Atkins fight for the rebound during the first half of Monday nights game at TVCC's Cardinal Gym in Athens.
The Crandall Lady Pirates were too much for the Bearettes to handle on Monday as Crandall rolled to a 48-36 victory at TVCC in Athens.

With the game moved from Malakoff to Athens the Bearettes seemed to have a slight home court advantage despite being named the visiting team.

Things looked good for the Bearettes early as Bianca Mosley won the opening tip before Monica Redfearn drained a three pointer for the first score of the game.

Brownsboro built on their 3-0 lead with a basket by senior Danica Edwards before Crandall came fighting back.

Crandall erased the Bearettes 5-0 lead forcing the Bearettes to call a time out with the game tied at the 3:16 mark in the first period.

Shortly after the timeout Crandall took their first lead of the game on back-to-back free throws. Redfearn tied the game at 7 for the Bearettes before two Brownsboro turnovers led to 4 points for the Pirates to end the period.

Chad Wilson Photo TOUGH NIGHT-- It was a tough night for the Bearettes against Crandall on Monday. Chelsey Chimney also found scoring tough after leading the Bearettes in scoring most of the season. Chimney scored 6 points against Crandall.
The first period lead for the Bearettes would be the only lead of the game they would have as Crandall dominated the next three periods.

In the second period the Lady Pirates forced several Bearette turnovers in route to holding the Bearettes to just four period points. Chelsey Chimney and Bianca Mosley both scored for the Bearettes in the second period.

Trailing 24-11 returning from the half the Bearettes were forced to play a near perfect game if they had any hopes of advancing in the playoffs.

Brownsboro could not mount a comeback in the third period as Crandall continued to play well. At one point late in the period the Lady Pirates built a 19 point lead before back to back scores by Brownsboro.

Down by 15 entering the final period of play the Bearettes could not overcome the Pirates as Crandall scored 11 period points while Brownsboro scored 14.

GOOD!- Monica Redfearn scores against Crandall.
Leading the Bearettes in scoring was junior Bianca Mosley with 13 points. Monica Redfearn also scored in double figures with 11 points, nailing a three. Mosley also had 2 blocked shots.

Like most of the season the one thing that hurt the Bearettes the most was turnovers. Crandall forced a few turnovers, but most of the Bearettes turnovers were self inflicted. Overall the Bearettes turned the ball over 21 times while forcing 16 Pirate turnovers.

Four seniors played their final game for the Bearettes on Monday night. Those seniors were starters Danica Edwards and Malleri McGee and reserves Kelly Miller and Sara Scarborough.

Last year the Bearettes claimed the Region II crown before falling to China Springs in the state tournament. No starters returned from that team.

Next season the Bearettes look to have three starters returning from this seasons team.

Overall the Bearettes finished the season with a record of 13-16. Crandall advances to play Liberty-Eylau. LE is ranked third in Class 3A by the TABC. Last season the Bearettes defeated Eylau to advance to State in a close contest in Commerce.

The top team in Class 3A is Canyon while last years champ China Springs is in second place in the rankings released Monday.
