St. Boniface Catholic Church
by Sue Beams

The Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time at St. Boniface was a time to reflect upon and answer the question, "What should be the manner of our behavior toward our fellow human beings, both friend and enemy?" In the readings, we learned that we are created in the image of Adam (mortal) and Jesus (immortal). We were told to love our enemies with Agape love; unconditional benevolence. The world is full of hatred, war, and bloodshed. While thousands die it is hard to "love your enemies." Jesus Christ never anticipated such evils as Hitler's regime, gang rapes, serial murderers, etc.

However, the love of Jesus Christ is universal benevolence. We are called to practice the same ... to be Christ-like in our thoughts, words, and deeds. We must stand beneath the cross to realize the sacrifice of this practice.

A Lenten Retreat will be held on March 10, 2007, from 9am until 4pm at Wellspring for the entire St. Boniface Community. This is a great opportunity to prepare ourselves for Easter. There is a sign-up sheet in the community hall.

Beginning Wednesday, February 28 at 6:30 p.m. with the viewing of the film, The Passion of Christ, there will be an Adult Bible study. Classes are scheduled for each Wednesday from March 7 thru April 4. For additional information, see John Bongiovanni or Mike Ramirez.

We need volunteers to help organize our Parish Picnic to be held on Saturday, May 12, 2007. There is a sign-up sheet in the community center.

Our entire Church family would like to express our gratitude to San Pedro's Restaurant and to Mr. Pete Ramos for the support of our fundraising activities. God bless your generosity and kindness.

As many of you know, this year St. Boniface will not be performing the Passion Play during Lent. It has been decided to make the project a true community effort by alternating sites for the production. This year will be a sabbatical as the area churches step back and make plans for the next year. The Passion Play has been a fixture at St. Boniface for many years, and it provided a wonderful venue for the entire Chandler/Brownsboro community to commemorate the Passion and death of our Lord. So much work has gone into the event, that resources are thinning. Please be assured that this decision was a most difficult one and that all those involved are looking forward to the "next time"!

Best wishes and congratulations to all who celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. We ask for God's continued comfort for all those who are sick and suffering. Remember in prayer, all those who have gone to their eternal rest. And please, continue to ask for the protection of the Almighty Father for the men and women in the armed services who protect and defend us. Have a Blessed week!
