Dear Sir:

Like most of my neighbors and citizens of Chandler I had never taken the time to attend the Chandler City Council meetings since I moved here three years ago.

Since the agenda on Tuesday night, February 13th included the voting of repealing Ordinance 50.160 of Title V: Public Works (Solid Waste Collection not Provided) and to consider and act upon City Wide Solid Waste Collection and Disposal, I decided to attend.

We were informed that Chandler is one of several towns in the state that does not comply with a Texas law that Texas cities will either have their own garbage trucks picking up solid waste, or they will negotiate with a vendor chosen for city wide Solid Waste collection and disposal.

The first five citizens that attended the meeting were allowed to speak three minutes for or against the proposal. There was standing room only and I did not see anyone in favor of the new ordinance.

There is no doubt in my mind that some company like EISI was the one lobbying Austin for this new law.

We may not be able to fight Austin in laws such as this, but we all can do our part by attending our city hall meetings and voicing our opinion before they are already laws on the books and too late.

The Chandler City Hall monthly meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at the Chandler City Hall. I intend to start attending each one.

Thank you, Douglas Crabtree Chandler, Texas
