dot 6 Services offers "capital" service
For the last 15 years dot 6 Services, Inc., located in Chandler on the corner of FM 315 and Dobbs, next to Citizens State Bank, has provided top quality ADA (American Disabilities Act) signage, ID cards, engraved desk name plates, award and dedication plaques, name badges, interior room identification signs, ID plates for taxidermist mounts and control panels, and computer engraving both locally and coast-to coast for hospitals, churches, schools, businesses and individuals. The name "dot 6" comes from the braille method widely used by blind people to read and write. Each braille character or "cell" is made up of six dot positions, arranged in a rectangle containing two columns of three dots each. A dot may be raised at any of the six positions to form letters and symbols. The sixth dot, located at the bottom of the second column in the cell indicates a capital letter will follow, in Keesey's case it means "capital" services to his customers. Prior to going into the signage business, Keesey worked as a freelance camera dolly grip in the motion picture business, and worked with such stars as Angie Dickinson, Chuck Connors, Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen, Steve Kanaly, and Roy Scheider to name a few. Eighteen years and 60 motion pictures later, Keesey said he grew tired of traveling and being away from his family - his wife, Diana, who taught the visually impaired for a school district, and two daughters, now grown. "My father was a master engraver of industrial machine control panels and steel dies as I was growing up and I worked for him during the summers," Keesey said. "When the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in 1991 requiring all public buildings to have room identification signs with raised letters and grade 2 braille, I realized this was the way out of the film business. " Combining Keesey's expertise in engraving with Diana's extensive knowledge of grade 2 braille, the foundation was laid for the couple to start up a company that would provide good quality compliant signs that also look good. "Our first job was the result of taking our oldest daughter to Dallas to enroll her in college courses at a Dallas community college while she was a senior in high school," Keesey said. "As she waited in line I walked around the campus and happened to meet the Director of Facilities. When I told him about our company he said the college district had signed contracts with an architect firm to bring every college in their district into compliance for the ADA signs." Keesey met with the firm and designed a modular sign system for the district and landed their first job producing 3,000 signs for three campuses. Without a business location or machinery, dot 6 Services, Inc. ordered equipment with the down payment on the order and manufactured the signs in their living room in Quinlan, Texas. Four years later Keesey moved his family and business to Chandler. "When we moved to Chandler, there was only one available space in the city for rent and we have been here for eleven years now," he said. In addition to his business, Keesey is active in the Chandler Brownsboro Area Chamber of Commerce. He was elected to the post of treasurer for the year 2006, and is currently serving his second three-year term on the board of directors. Since the Chamber was first conceived in 1998, Keesey, who is a charter member, has always been available to serve wherever needed, and furnishes the Chamber with their membership and award plaques, as well. His goal as a member of the Chamber of Commerce is to encourage membership involvement and to help provide a better avenue to publicize the area businesses. dot 6 Services, Inc. is open 8am-5pm Monday-Friday.
