Chandler Elementary chatter

Pre-K - Pre-K has been hard at work. We continue to focus on identifying letters and sounds, writing our name and counting. We have almost introduced the entire alphabet. When you see a pre-k student, ask them to tell you about "Uncle Ugbee." Also, the children are awesome at singing color songs. Learning about President's Day and Groundhog Day was fun. The afternoon class had a good time wishing 3rd grade good luck at the TAKS pep rally.

We would like to thank all the parents for sending Valentine treats. We are looking forward to springtime, and all the fun activities. We will continue to work hard and prepare for Kindergarten.

The Kindergarten classes at CES just finished their study of Water Habitats. We learned many interesting facts about ponds and oceans and the animals that live in and around them. Did you know that starfish fathers have a pouch to keep their eggs in and the babies hatch from the father's pouch? And starfish have as many as 400 babies at one time. We really enjoyed looking at the sea shells and starfish in our classrooms. This week we are beginning our study of farms. We will be learning about many different farm animals and plants. This is always one of our favorite times of year!

First Grade Teachers are proud of every student's success in the PTO Program despite all the sickness. We enjoyed Valentine parties. Students always love reading the Valentine messages from friends. We are looking forward to our "Texas Day" on March 9th on the back side of the school yard. We would appreciate all parents pitching in with any ideas for "Activity Stations" that can be set up for students. Parents are needed that day helping with activities. We will have a Hot Dog Cookout. Enjoy Spring Break. We will have our Field Trip after Spring Break. We will go to Athens to the Trinity Mother Frances ER room. More info later.

2nd Grade - We have had a great month. We have been studying the solar system, earth and weather in Science. This week we have a special guest coming to speak to us. It is Robert Thornton, one of the meteorologists from Region 56 News.

Thanks to all the parents who provided refreshments for our Valentine party and the personal "love kisses." The notes made Valentine a very special occasion this year.

We enjoyed getting to watch our AR movie with the rest of CES. Many of us are doing our part and more to reach the AR goals for our school.

March has two very special events: Spring Break, March 12-16 ... ENJOY! The 2nd Grade Lock-In is set for Friday night, March 23. More details will be sent out as they are made!

3rd Grade has also been working really hard on math! We are almost through learning all of our multiplication facts and are working really hard to become better problem solvers. The kids now can solve three-step word problems with ease and have even been writing their own original word problems for each math process.

Our students and teachers are all working extremely hard preparing our children to become successful adults! As always, we appreciate everything that is done for our school and our students. Every little bit counts.

Also, remember that February is the "month of love." Show your child that you love them by starting their day out with a hug! You would be amazed at how much better their day will be. A little love goes a long way.

Our Character word for this six weeks is "Caring." Caring means being kind, forgiving others, helping people in need and saying "Thank you."

Students will be recognized for perfect attendance and no tardies throughout the year. Be sure to be at school on time every day. We now have a warning bell that rings at 7:55 and the tardy bell will ring at 8:00. Make sure you are in your class at 8:00!

We are collecting Box Tops again this year. Send 10 box tops in an envelope with your child's name on it. We will draw names for prizes.

Happy Birthday! Student birthdays are acknowledged in the office. Come by the office and pick up your Birthday Ribbon on your special day. Our Staff birthdays for the month of February were Mrs. Baley, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Weisinger, Ms. Parker and Mrs. Holt.

In February we had a lot of students out with illness. Please make sure your child is free of fever for 24 hours before returning to school.

We had a TAKS pep rally in preparation for TAKS which was on February 20th. We celebrated Valentine's Day on Feburary 23rd. Students who read for 6 hours or more, turned in their forms to earn a free ticket to Six Flags. They will receive those tickets on the last day of school.

Upcoming events: March 1st Early Release; March 8th TAKS night for 2nd and 3rd grade parents; March 9th Kickoff for Jump Rope for Heart; March 12-16 Spring Break; March 23, 2nd Grade Lock In.
