Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barb Cade

We are very glad that everything has settled down after the train derailment/chemical spill scare last Sunday. It occurred just at the beginning of the Sunday evening Lenten Bible study led by Rev. Prather. Ken and Barb Cade and Rose Cade had to be evacuated from Cade's Cove Campground for several hours.

In the meantime, it was hard to conduct the Bible study as everyone was worried about what was going on and whether or not the wind would carry the fumes from the smoke that far south.

Lt. John Garvin of Ft. Benning, Georgia and Kelly Garvin of Pflugerville were in town to help their brother, Lt. Thomas Garvin of Bossier City, La., celebrate his birthday at their parents, Randy and Judy Garvin's house. They are Barb and Ken Cade's niece and nephews. I think a dancing chicken was probably the life of the party.

Dale Whisenhunt's brother in Dallas is very ill and needs lots of prayer.

We are happy to announce that Benni Brown is back from an extended stay in Chicago. She made it up there just in time for a few blizzards, so we bet she is happy to be back here in the warm weather.

Dorothy Botts is having back trouble this week.

Tuesday night was the regular meeting of the United Methodist Women. A delicious meal and an excellent program were both provided by Rebecca Prather.

Not to be outdone by his wife, Rev. Richard Prather is cooking the breakfast for the Methodist Men on Saturday morning. The guys are looking forward to some great sausage and gravy. The meal will be followed by a workday at the church.

Last Tuesday night several from the church attended a meeting with Bishop Huie in Tyler to hear about church growth and plans for the future.

Planning for the Easter services is underway. Yesterday there was a meeting outlining the Palm Sunday service and tomorrow there will be a meeting planning the Easter sunrise service.

Spring Break starts next week, so it will be time for a lot of folks to take a little trip. Richard and Rebecca Prather will be heading to Richmond, Virginia where they will attend a church conference and enjoy a little vacation.
