Deadline nearing to file for local elections

Only four days remain to file for the upcoming countywide city and school board elections that will be held Saturday, May 12.

On the Brownsboro city council the position of mayor currently held by Ronny Harris, and two at-large seats occupied by Randal Clayton and Len Vest are up. As of press time no one has filed.

The terms of Joel Irwin and Charles Anderson on the Brownsboro ISD are about to come to an end. Although no one has filed, Irwin, who serves as the Board's president said he will turn in his application later this week.

Both Chandler City Council members Barbara Reeves and Marshal Crawford have filed for re-election, as well as Chandler Mayor Joye Rains. Chandler city secretary Shirley Parmer reports two others have picked up application packets, but have yet to file.

The city of Murchison reports no one has filed for any of the seats up for election now held by Roger Adair, Lloyd Smith and Tony Baker.

The two at-large seats on the Murchison ISD school board, currently held by Nelda Tillison and Mike Davis are up. No one has yet to file.

Four candidates have filed in the race for city council in Coffee City. Betty Gail Davis, who holds Place 2, has filed for re-election and is being challenged by Doris Harmon. Henry Thirkill, who serves on Place 4 has also filed for reelection and will be challenged by Shirley Walker.

Mayor and city council terms are two years, and school board terms are for three.

Applications for these positions will be accepted through 5:00 p.m., Monday, March 12.
