Bearettes tally 18 hits in 10-6 win over Brook Hill

Missing two starters the Bearettes did not miss a beat offensively as they rolled past Brook Hill 10-6 last Monday in Bullard.

Brownsboro struck early scoring one run in the top of the first inning before the Lady Guard answered right back, scoring a run in the bottom of the inning.

The Bearettes claimed the lead after the end of the second inning as they scored a run in the top of the inning while holding Brook Hill scoreless.

As the Bearettes offense began to heat up the defense played well, not allowing another Guard run until the fifth inning. By the top the sixth the Bearettes led 7-5.

In seventh and final inning the Bearettes squashed any hopes of a Brook Hill comeback by scoring three runs to increase their score to 10-5.

Brook Hill managed to drive across one run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 10-6.

Seven batters for Brownsboro had at least two hits while Heather Blakely, Morgan McGill and Danielle Bynum each had three hits.

Randi Smith and Haley Suggs each had a triple while Smith, Krystin Groothuis and Blakely (2) each had a double.

Driving in runs for the Bearettes was Jessica Ford, Smith (2), McGill (2) and Blakely (2). McGill and Ford each had a stolen base.

On the mound Krystin Groothuis struck out 9 batters, walked just two and picked up the win.

Brownsboro will play in the Lindale Tournament this weekend with their first game scheduled for 10:45 on Friday. The Bearettes will then play at 2:15 and 5:45, all on the Lindale High School Field.

Once pool play is complete the top two teams will advance to the Gold Bracket while the bottom two teams will play in the Silver Bracket.

All bracket games will be played on Saturday with the first beginning at 8am and the championship to be played at 8:15pm. Other games will be played at Nunlee Field and Coomer Field in Lindale.

The Bearettes will begin pool play with Tarkington before playing Eustace and Spring Hill. There are four pools in all and the Bearettes play in pool 3.

Brownsboro is 6-1 on the season and continues to improve each time on the field.
