St. Boniface Catholic Church
by Sue Beams

On the 3rd Sunday of Lent, members of St. Boniface continued their Spiritual journey toward Easter. We are reminded in the Holy Gospel according to Luke, that the Lord stresses that we continue to `produce plenty of fruit.' However, we must be patient for the fruit to appear. As we celebrate the Lenten season, we need to have a repentant spirit. Simply being sorry for our transgressions is not all that the Lord desires. We must also have a change of heart. The season of Lent is the Springtime of the Church. This is the season to prepare our gardens (hearts) for planting. We must work hard to soften our soil (soul), to work the earth in order to enjoy the abundance of harvest (heaven). We should have patience, as our Lenten work is difficult, but the rewards are well worth the hard work.

On Saturday, March 10th, thirteen members of St. Boniface (plus Fr. James!) gathered at Wellspring (the Fransalian Center for Spirituality) for a day of reflection and prayer. Father Gus Tharappel facilitated this Lenten celebration.

The retreat provided an opportunity to grow spiritually as individuals as well as a community. Attendees were encouraged to grow in Christ by moving from `fasting to feasting' and Spiritual disciplines. According to Fr. Gus, it is human nature to dwell in guilt and shame when confronted with ideas for spiritual discipline. He advised, "Do not wallow in guilt and shame." We should embrace what is good that is being offered to you. We also heard of ways to pray more effectively and efficiently.

This was the best retreat I have ever attended, and I feel certain that each member present would agree. About the only thing I can think of that would have made the day better, would have been to see

all of St. Boniface's members there! I would encourage you to make plans to attend any future parish retreats that are held.

Each Friday during Lent, Mass will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Stations of the Cross.

The adult Bible study continues each Wednesday evening at 6:30 through April 4th. If you missed the first week, don't worry, it's not too late to `catch up'! For more information, contact John Bonglovanni.

On March 30, 2007, there will be an opportunity to have a health screening for vascular, and/or abdominal abnormalities. On March 24th and 25th there will be an explanation of the non-invasive procedures and cost.

New classes will be held for Extraordinary Ministers, Lector, and Ushers on Thursday, March 22, 2007. There is a need in each of these ministries. Please plan to attend, whether you are a new or current server.

Birthday and anniversary blessing to everyone celebrating this week. We ask for continued prayer for the sick and suffering. Pray, too, for the faithful departed. Remember our men and women in uniform as they fight for our freedom. Have a wonderful week and God Bless!
