Lake Palestine U.M.C. Despite the arrival of Daylight Saving Time, there was still a nice crowd at church on Sunday, although the 8:30 a.m. service might have been a little lighter than usual. For the first time in several weeks we welcomed back Dorothy Birdwell. She has been fighting bronchitis, so we're glad she is doing better. Fred and Trudy Riddle had with them their grandchildren, Aaron, Abbey and Amanda Stevens from Hurst. Their week off from school will be an exciting one for Fred and Trudy as the three will be spending the week here. Mary Ann Wright was here from Dickenson, Texas as a houseguest of Lillian Stegall. We were also happy to note that Sandra Buchanan is back up and moving again after her bout with the flu. The United Methodist Women announced that they are beginning a new project for the Women's Crisis Cen- ter. They would like donations of new women's and children's underwear and socks. There will be a place designated at the church for all items brought in. It was mentioned in church that Dale Whisenhunt's brother is still very ill and needs lots of prayer. We were all very saddened this past week to hear of the passing of Bob Hitt's mother and Vera Rhodes' mother. The funeral for Bob Hitt's mother was held at the church on Saturday with a burial in Arlington, Texas. Vera's mother had her services and burial in Big Spring, Texas. Finally, Barbara Riveire has the big cast off of her arm and she is back at work in the Tyler library. Also, Roy Different is sporting a sling around his arm from his recent shoulder surgery. He says he will have to contend with that for another two weeks. Sunny Farley announced that we will need lots of donations of plastic Easter eggs and individually wrapped candies for the big Easter egg hunt coming up in the near future. Kaethe Griffin brought her young neighbor, Jack, to church. We were glad to see him there. Immediately after the service, Richard and Rebecca Prather got in the car and headed to Houston where they caught a plane for Richmond, Virginia. They will return at the end of the week. Dorothy Botts is still not feeling well. Our prayers are with her. Mary Ann Whisenhunt was working on orders for the Angel Food boxes for March. Today is the last day to get an order in for this month. The delivery date is March 31st from noon to 1 p.m. We also noticed that Ann Blackmon was in church this morning with pictures of her new grandbaby. Ava May Martinez was born on February 16th in Sante Fe, Texas. Her parents are Rebecca and Simon Martinez. From the looks of the pictures, she's a real beauty. Ann has other grandchildren, but this is the first one in thirteen years, so it's kind of like starting all over again. Congratulations, Ann. |
