It's a done deal Inside 15 minutes' time the Chandler City Council met, discussed and approved all three items on their March 13 agenda last Tuesday night. The City Council voted unanimously to adopt a franchise for residential and commercial solid waste collection and disposal services within the city, and to accept the fiveyear franchise agreement with Sanitation Solutions, Inc., of Gilmer to begin May 1. "The contract, I believe, is a good solid contract," City Administrator Jim Moffeit said before the council voted. "We've done everything humanly possible to make it correct and make it a good one." The contract states the city will charge residents $18.94 per month for twice-weekly trash pick up on Tuesdays and Fridays, and commercial customers will pay $25.33. Residential customers will have the choice of a polycart or bags. Along with household trash pickup, bulky items will be picked up as well. Refrigerators and air conditioners must have the refrigerant removed and tagged showing such removal before pickup. "If you have a couch or a hot water heater you can put it out like you would anything else," Moffeit said. One of the eleven private trash collection services currently operating in the city, GPS Garbage Pick-Up Service, of Tyler, issued a letter to its nearly 50 Chandler customers earlier this month stating all trash collection would end on March 29, leaving those customers without trash pick up for one month. Moffeit said any concerned GPS customers can call the city at 903-849-6853. "Sanitation Solutions has offered to provide temporary service beginning April 1 until the regular service begins," he said. "They have offered to collect trash from those residents for one month and charge them directly." Other business included the approval of a variance request from John Perez at 614 Rose Lane from the required 7.5 ft. rear setback to a 5 ft. rear setback to allow a 20x20 carport. The Chandler City Council meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m., in the Chandler city hall. |
