Ben Wheeler Community News How appropriate is that? Ben Wheeler Community Crafters organized and has had weekly meetings during the month of March. Crafters meet every Thursday from 10am to 3pm at the Methodist Church in downtown Ben Wheeler, next to the new Fire Station. The number of participants continues to grow. Join us! The last meeting, the third Thursday, was devoted to Scrapbooking. Lisa Brown demonstrated techniques for turning old, three-ring binder notebooks into new, stylish and clever picture albums. Crafters shared a covered dish luncheon. The following plans have been made: Fourth Thursday, March 22: Crocheting, Knitting and other Handwork is hosted by Bobbie Hill, 903- 833-2139. Beginning knitting, crocheting and tatting demonstrations are planned. Karen Tutor will present a video demonstration on needle tatting. Fifth Thursday, March 29: Free Crafting Activities, hosted by Terri Bevans, 903-852-7666. This day will be devoted to programs regarding food preparation, decorating, and storage. Sherry Royce will demonstrate cake decorating; Joy Beggs will demonstrate Blueberry Jelly making; and Terri will discuss food storage and stocking up. The rest of the day will be free crafting, so bring some UFP (unfinished project) to work on. First Thursday, April 5: Sewing and Quilting, hosted by Nancy Hrobar, 903-833-5329. The demonstration will be on speed-piecing nine patch blocks. Carol Moore and Alice Wilson, owners of Country Junction Quilt Shop in Wills Point, will be the luncheon speakers. They will present new ideas, tools and fabrics. Second Thursday, April 12: General Crafting, hosted by Terri Bevans, 903-852-7666. The faux tile wall hanging project will finally get underway. Terri was not able to order the supplies in time for the last meeting. You can still place an order for the supplies and get instructions for the project from Terri. Many thanks to Barb Latham, Heritage Quilt Guild of Van Zandt County, for donating two boxes of craft magazines to get our library started! As with any other crafter day, you don't have to participate in the planned project. Come and learn the technique. Do it later. Bring something to work on, a UFP, a recipe to share, and a sack lunch or covered dish, preferably with food in it, to share. Join the fun and fellowship! Get motivated! Fellowship with other crafters! Share ideas! Finish all those unfinished projects! Be productive! Learn something new! Enjoy good food! Share recipes! Make new friends! Get out of the house! Mainly, have lots and lots of fun! Open to the public. |
