Rangers end stadium naming rights deal with Ameriquest

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Texas Rangers ended their stadium naming rights deal with Ameriquest Mortgage Co. on Monday, severing a 30-year contract with the struggling lender just three years after Ameriquest Field debuted.

The stadium will be called Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, the team said in a statement.

Ameriquest's deal with the Rangers, announced in 2004, was reportedly worth $75 million. The parent company of the subprime lender, ACC Capital Holdings Corp., announced last week that it was slashing its work force for the second time in less than a year.

In a statement, Rangers president Jeff Cogen said the team approached Ameriquest last year in order to reclaim the Ballpark name for a new branding strategy.

Prior to the contract with Ameriquest in 2004, the stadium was known as The Ballpark in Arlington.

The renaming comes 2 1/ 2 years before the scheduled opening of the Dallas Cowboys ' new stadium nearby.
