Brownsboro outscores Sabine 15-12 for final non-district win

Following a delayed start due to a Junior Varsity game going into extra innings the Bears faced off against the Sabine Cardinals last Friday night in their final non-district game of the season.
Neither team scored after one inning of play but in the top of the second inning Collin Wilson drove in Ryan Smith with a single to left field. Smith reached base on an error before stealing second.
Trailing 1-0 the Cardinals also got on the board in the second inning as they led off the inning with a walk, before three consecutive singles. By innings end the Cardinals took a 4-1 lead.
On the mound to begin the game for Brownsboro was Clayton Boyd. Through the first two innings Boyd struck out four batters, including the final three batters of the second inning.
Brownsboro wasted no time regaining a share of the lead as they scored three runs in the top of the third inning. Ryan Epperson reached on a walk to begin the inning before stealing second. Epp scored on a double by Smith before Smith came around on a single by Brad McDonald.

Trailing by one, Daniel Suggs made the rally complete as he doubled to right center field to score McDonald and tie the game.
Boyd shut the Cardinals down in the bottom of the third to leave the game tied at four heading into the fourth inning.
Brownsboro continued to swing the bat well in the fourth inning with no bigger swing than that from Keaton Parsell. With runners in scoring position Parsell hammered a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to break the tie.
In the bottom half of the inning Boyd once again held the Cardinals at bay allowing just one base runner to hold the Bears maintain a 7-4 lead.
Bears bats continued to roar in the fifth inning as Collin Wilson singled with 2-outs to start the action. Wilson then stole second and third before Logan Bryan reached on a walk.
Bryan advanced to second on a pass ball, setting runner up in scoring position for Ryan Epperson. Down in the count 0-2 Epperson was not fazed as he nailed a pitch over the right field fence for the Bears second three-run homerun of the game.
Leading 10-4 the Bears were not through in the fourth inning as Parsell singled following Epperson's homer. Helping his own cause Clayton Boyd doubled in Parsell to increase the Bears lead to 11-4.
With Boyd on third after a wild pitch freshman Ryan Smith walked in what may be his final at bat of the season. Smith stole second and on an attempted slide twisted his ankle and was removed from the game. Smith is the Bears starting shortstop and was having a great first year on the varsity level. He will be replaced at short by Seth Martin.
Changing pitchers to begin the bottom half of the fifth inning the Bears continued to hold the Cardinals scoreless. Now on the mound for the Bears was Keaton Parsell. Parsell fanned the first two batters he faced in the inning.
Brownsboro was held scoreless in the top of the sixth inning before the Cardinals broke out for four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the Bears lead to 11-8.
Increasing their lead in the seventh inning the Bears scored four runs as Epperson started things off with a walk before stealing second. Epp scored on another Boyd double. Boyd then stole third and scored on an error by the pitcher.
Dustin Edgar followed with a walk before Brad McDonald reached on an error. Edgar and McDonald came across to score the final 2 runs of the game for the Bears on a double by Seth Martin in his first game back from injury.
With 3 outs remaining the Cardinals trailed 15-8 but still had some fight left. With a new pitcher on the mound for the Bears the Cardinals scored four runs in the bottom of the inning before the Bears shut the door on the rally attempt.
Winning 15-12 the Bears improved their record on the season to 10-5 in non-district play.
Epperson walked four times against Sabine, and his only official at bat was a homer. Boyd picked up two hits and an RBI, Wilson also had two hits and a RBI.
Brownsboro opened up District 14-3A action on Tuesday night in Van and will play at home this Friday at 7:00pm against Chapel Hill.
Through the first 15 games of the 2007 season the Bears have put up some very impressive offensive numbers.
The team batting average stands at .349 and .296 with runners in scoring position. Boyd leads the team in hits with 23, while Epperson and Parsell each have 18.
Ryan Epperson leads the team in homeruns with 5, Parsell has 2 while Boyd, Bryan and Smith all have one. Smith, Bryan and Boyd all have one triple this season.
Brownsboro has scored 125 runs this season with Collin Wilson leading the way with 18 runs scored followed by Epperson (17) and Bryan (15). Leading the team in RBIs is Parsell with 28. Epperson has 22 RBIs while Boyd is third on the team with 16.
Leading the team in walks is Epperson with 17, Brad McDonald has 10. Epp also leads the team in batting average with a .529 average. Boyd is batting .489, Parsell .367, Logan Bryan .341, and freshman Ryan Smith .340 rounds out the top five in batting.
Colin Wilson leads the team in stolen bases with 8, while Bryan is second on the team with 6.
On the mound 10 different pitchers have scene action this season for the Bears. Parsell leads the team in innings pitched (22) and strike outs (33). Boyd leads the team in wins (4) and is second in innings pitched (21) and strike outs (26).
With an ERA of 2.72 Ryan Epperson leads the team while a perfect 2-0 on the mound.
Four different players each have a save this season for the Bears; they are Boyd, Bryan, Parsell and Jacob Shelton.
