St. Boniface Catholic Church On the Fifth Sunday of Lent, the members of St. Boniface were reminded of the mercy, compassion, and love of Christ Jesus. We are sinners. What is it that makes us worthy of God? It is His mercy! We learned that when Jesus was about to be `trapped' by the Pharisees and Scribes in regards to His respect for the law, they set out to test His mercy and compassion. In the gospel of John (8:1-11) we are told of the adulteress being brought to stand before Jesus When posed the question, "What do you say?" Jesus kept his own counsel. He merely bent down and began writing in the sand (tradition says perhaps Jesus Christ was writing their sins in the sand!). The adulteress was fully aware of her sin against the law as well as God. Lent is the time to examine our hearts and humbly accept that we are sinners. We need the compassion, love and mercy of Jesus Christ. We need to be participants in reconciliation and show the same compassion in our everyday life that is shown to us by Jesus Christ. Iris Mamo, DRE, presented Ashley Hernandez to the community. Ashley will receive Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist through the Rite of Christian Initiation (which she has completed) at Easter. We pray for her as she continues to walk with Jesus through her Catholic faith. The Youth did another outstanding job during the monthly Youth Mass. They did the readings, presented the gifts, and ushered during the Sunday Mass. Great job! Thanks to the leaders of the youth, Sigi Bundy and Stephanie Adams for their work with the youth of our Parish. There will be a reconciliation service on March 30. Stations of the Cross will be at 5:30 pm followed by Mass at 6:00pm and the reconciliation service will be at 6:30. Palm Sunday, April 1, the procession will start in front of the CCD building. Please try to be in place by 9:30am. On Holy Thursday, the Eucharistic procession will start inside the Church following the 6:30pm Mass. The procession will be from the church to the CCD Building and back again. Please make plans to attend this event. There will be a commissioning of Eucharistic Ministers next Sunday. For more information on upcoming Lenten devotions and events, please refer to your bulletin or call the office. Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this week. We pray that our Heavenly Father will comfort the sick and suffering. Remember the souls of the faithful departed, may they rest in the eternal peace of the Lord. We ask for continued prayer for the men and women in the Armed Services. May God protect them from harm and bring them home safely. God bless each of you. |
