Local election season underway

Campaign season for the May 12 school board and city council elections in Henderson County is now underway.

Early voting begins April 30 and lasts through May 8.

Brownsboro ISD

Two seats on the Brownsboro ISD board of trustees are up for election. There are three candidates. The two with the most votes will be elected. Seeking re-election is president of the board Joel Irwin, a banker. Also running for a seat is Donnie Wilson, general manager for a car dealership, and Jeffrey Fulgham, Jr., a banker.

BISD has consolidated the two voting sites of Westside and Coffee City. Westside voters will cast their votes in Chandler, and Coffee City will vote in Moore Station.

Brownsboro City Council Incumbents for mayor and two city coun- cil seats are unopposed.

Ronny Harris, a retired school administrator is unopposed for mayor. Mayor pro tem Randall Clayton, a banker; and Len Vest, an insurance adjustor, are both seeking another term.

Chandler City Council

Three positions on the Chandler City Council are up for election, and all three incumbents are unopposed.

Seeking new terms are Mayor Joye Rains, retired; and council members Barbara Reeves, a purchasing agent; and Marshall Crawford, employed by Good Year.

Murchison ISD

Two seats on the Murchison ISD board of trustees are up for election, and incumbents are unopposed.

Incumbents Nelda Tillison, retired; and Mike Davis, a police officer are seeking new terms.

Murchison City Council

Three positions on the Murchison City Council will be filled and incumbents are unopposed.

Seeking new terms are council members Roger Adair, employed by the Texas Dept. of Corrections; and Lloyd Smith, a business owner.

Coffee City City Council

Two seats on the Coffee City City Council are up for election and both are contested.

Running for Place 2 are incumbent Betty Gail Davis, employed by the Villages; and Doris Harmon, a housekeeper.

Running for Place 4 are incumbent Henry Thirkill, employed by Carrier Air Conditioning; Shirley Walker, retired from Frankston ISD; Tony Moore, retired; and George Street, employed by Frankston Box Company.

Moore Station City Council

Calls to Moore Station seeking candidate information have not been returned.

Upon the approval of their respective city councils whose incumbents are unopposed, elections for Brownsboro, Chandler, and Murchison City Councils will be cancelled. That also goes for the Murchison ISD board of trustee election.
