Chandler Elementary Chatter

The Chandler Elementary Teachers have written the following news of what their classes are doing:

Pre-K has been hard at work learning the sounds of the alphabet. We have almost covered all the letters in the alphabet. What fun we have singing and reading about each letter.

Watching the kids write their name is exciting. We would like to thank all the parents that have practiced at home with their child to write their name.

We are all excited about Springtime! There is so much to learn and experience. All the kids are looking forward to their first Easter party. What fun we will have!

Kindergarten classes are beginning their Exploring Beasts unit. We are excited about learning about many different beasts. As part of our study we will be going to Caldwell Zoo on March 30th. We are really excited about our field trip and getting to see all of the animals we are studying about. We are also getting ready for the Spring Fling on April 27th. If you would like to donate something to the Silent Auction, please contact one of the kindergarten teachers. We are looking for anything that someone might like to purchase.

First Grade is learning about spring. We really love the weather that comes along with it. Texas Day was enjoyed by all students; many activities were set up for us. We really appreciate all parents that came to help. On March 29th we will travel for our Field Trip to ETMC in Athens to tour the Emergency Room and Care Flight. We will then go to the Fairgrounds for a picnic and go through the Petting Zoo that they will have set up on that day. Students are really excited about the Spring Festival that will be April 27th.

Second Grade is learning about dinosaurs. This is a fun and exciting topic for all the students. They are also learning how to write in cursive. We encourage you to read with your child every night.

We had a great time last Friday night with the lock-in. The students had a lot of fun. We had some competitions in hula hoop, jump rope and relays. Ask your child what they liked best about the lockin.

Our character word for the month of March is Caring. Caring means being kind to others, forgiving others, helping people in need and saying "thank you." Students will be recognized for perfect attendance and no tardies throughout the year. Be sure to be at school on time every day. We now have a warning bell that rings at 7:55 and the tardy bell will ring at 8:00. Make sure you are in your class at 8:00!

We are collecting Box Tops again this year. Send 10 box tops in an envelope with your child's name on it. We will draw names for prizes.

Happy Birthday! Student birthdays are acknowledged in the office. Come by the office and pick up your Birthday Ribbon on your special day. Our Staff birthdays for the month of March are Ms. Barnes, Mrs. Birdwell, Mrs. Fulgham, Mrs. Reid, and Mrs. Mitchell.

We just finished Jump Rope for Heart during the week of March 19th to the 23rd. All the students had a great time jumping rope. Thank you to Coach Roberson for organizing that event.

On March 23rd, second grade had a lock-in at the school. They had a great time. For four hours they ate pizza, played games and got their face painted, just to name a few activities.

Upcoming events include PTO meeting on April 10th; Easter parties on April 5th, No school on Friday, April 6th; TAKS testing on April 17th and 18th; and Spring Festival on April 27th.

Look for more information to come on all of these events. If you need additional information about the news, please call the school at 903-849- 3400. CES loves our school, parents, teachers, students, volunteers, and community.
