Lake Palestine U.M.C.
by Barbara Cade

We have just finished a great week in the life of the church, but also a very exhausting one. It seems like everyone had a hand in bringing about all the Easter events. In particular, we want to thank Rev. Richard Prather for the tremendous amount of work he did in planning and creating just the right atmosphere for the services.

Carla Fisher is to be commended also as she pulled together an official choir for Sunday, complete with choir robes. They worked hard and did an excellent job. We also want to thank Carla's husband, Bob, for spearheading the early morning breakfast on Easter Sunday. He had a lot of help, but we know he was busy cooking for it the night before.

The Saturday morning Easter egg hunt was a big success. There were 800 eggs (with candy) placed around the church for the young ones to find. They also played some inside games, and the best part of all was the surprise snow that delighted everyone, even though it made it seem more like Christmas than Easter.

We want to thank Rev. David Luckert for coming down from Chandler First UMC to deliver the Sunrise sermon. Cathy Luckert brought a beautiful solo, mostly a cappella when the tape refused to work right. These two played a very big role in the beginnings of this church, and we are going to miss them when they move to the Houston area this summer to take on a new church. While speaking of the sunrise service, we want to note especially that everyone did make it by 6:30 a.m. except for a couple who came in right at the end. We won't mention who they were, but they got to stay for breakfast and we're glad they did.

Bernard and Linda Massey made it to the Easter service, but they were in Ft. Worth most of the weekend celebrating a friend's birthday. Several others are also out of town visiting family.

We also want to say goodbye to our great pianist, Sarah Howard. She has been an invaluable addition to Lake Palestine UMC. We will miss her and hope she comes back to visit some.

Kaethe Griffin had a good day. After coming to the early service, she spent the rest of the day with her granddaughter and family.

Richard and Rebecca Prather had their daughter, Jessica, visiting from Houston for the weekend.

Ken and Barb Cade, Rose and Sylvia had Easter dinner in Tyler with Barb's mother.

We were saddened to hear on Easter morning of the passing of Margie Jordan, a great friend of the church. She was one of the original forces behind its inception and an inspiration to all who knew her.

Next week, the usual round of meetings will begin again as usual, but there will be a special Spiritual Gifts seminar scheduled for April 21st. Mark your calendars accordingly.
