BISD stays a step ahead in protection

In an effort to keep their students safe Brownsboro Independent School District is in the process of purchasing five additional Heart Defibulators for the upcoming school year.

Currently BISD has nine defibulators distributed across the campuses and plans to use the new five to travel with the athletic teams to games as well as practices.

BISD Superintendent Elton Caldwell stated that he believes heart defibulators will be required in every school district in the upcoming years and he wanted BISD to take every measure to keep its students safe.

The five new defibulators will be distributed throughout both the high school and junior high athletic programs. BISD was able to land a good price for each defibulator, with each coming less than $1,000. In an online search Difibulators normally start out at $1,500 each.

Heart Difibulators increase the chances of survival if a student or anyone else for that matter goes into cardiac arrest. The defibulator keeps the heart beating at a normal pace while awaiting the paramedics to arrive.

When a person is in cardiac arrest, time is of the essence. Mere minutes can be the difference between full recovery, and death or permanent damage. For this reason, a portable defibulator (also called an external heart defibulator) is a key piece of equipment in any emergency response kit.

BISD is taking the steps to keep its athletes and students safe, even when those steps are not a requirement.
