Union Hill Baptist News We, at Union Hill, have a group of folks who have a very active and consistent Nursing Home Ministry. We speak little about these people who go quietly about the business of volunteering at the nursing homes, but we ought to be shouting about them as their dedication to this ministry brings much joy and fellowship into the lives of the residents. Their ministry was honored during National Volunteers Week with a reception April 18th at West Place Nursing Home in Athens for all volunteers. Those honored from Union Hill were Christian Walker, Lila Newcomer, Verline Rodgers and Carolyn Lessley. These folks do the bingo activities every Tuesday. On April 19th, Ms. Lessley was also honored during a reception at Green Oaks Nursing Home in Athens where she shows Gospel Music videos to the residents each Tuesday morning. It was reported by Ms. Lessley that she and her co-volunteers received many blessings from all of the residents and staff. Remember, we have some Union Hill members that are currently residents. It would be great if we could drop them a card in the mail to brighten their day. In West Place Nursing Home, P.O. Box 232, Athens 75751, we have Addie Reid, Imogene Featherston, Alma Morris and Ernest Hubbard. Ms. Helen Davis is in Green Oaks Nursing Home, 500 Valle Vista, Athens. Come on, let's surprise them with a pretty hello. Just takes a jiffy and will mean so much to them. Now, let's talk about another ministry that's always on the move ... our Wheels of Mercy and Daughters of Destiny. They are never idle, always on the go for the Lord. They were all out there last Saturday at Brookshire's in Chandler, washing everything from little cars to big ole trucks, happy in their work, joyous in their dedication. All proceeds went into the fund for the "Go Ye Run" to be held on May 31st. They're riding to Glenrose, Texas this year. We'll be talking much more about this as it draws near. It is a tremendous event with a far-reaching ministry. Your support of these folks will bring you a blessing in more ways than you can imagine. Now we have a special thank you from the Youth of Union Hill for all of you who gave so generously to make their lunch and auction a great success. Net proceeds were tremendous, making it possible for them to go to camp. We have an exceptional group of youngsters and a marvelous group of leaders who, together with God's help, feel nothing is too big to tackle. Great going, kids! Another special thanks to those of you who helped with the "raising of the walls" for Brent Miller last Saturday. Not only did the workers get all four walls raised, but got the floor leveled too. We especially appreciate the experienced help and guidance on the construciton. Everyone did a fantastic job. Now for things to come. If you're reading this on Wednesday, remember that the last Wednesday of the month means Family Fellowship. Bring your favorite dish and come eat and fellowship with us. It's always lots of fun with great food. Sunday will be the fifth Sunday of the month and that means "Community Church Service." Everyone who participates in this special service just loves it and looks forward to it. This time it will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Brownsboro with Pastor Zinn of Calvary Baptist bringing the message. This is one of the most popular happenings in Brownsboro, when we meet with family and friends from other area churches and worship together. Join us at 6:00 p.m. You'll miss a real blessing if you don't take advantage of this opportunity. We had a terrific day of worship last Sunday and look forward to another this Sunday. It was great having you visitors with us and we invite you back. As always, it is my pleasure to be able to visit with you each week. I pray that the Lord will watch over you and keep you safe. See you on the hill. |
