Jimmie L. Melton

Services for Jimmie L. Melton, 81, of Chandler, were held Thursday, April 19, at the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler with Rev. Jerry Phelps officiating. Burial was in Poynor Cemetery.

Mr. Melton passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007, in Tyler. He was born January 17, 1926 in Poynor to the late John W. and Virgie Hurt Melton. He lived in the Tyler area for 25 years, moving here from Texas City where he retired from Monsanto Oil & Gas Refinery. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Melton in 1997, and by a brother, John L. Melton, and a sister, Cleo Pagitt.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Brenda Wright of Brownsboro, John Templin of Chandler, and Victor Wright of California; a daughter, Jennifer Melton of Flint; a nephew, John Pagitt of Eastland; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joe Wurzler, Joey Taylor, Aaron Wright, Darrin Wright, Allen Strait and John Pagitt. Honorary pallbearers were Rex Templin, Spencer Taylor, Justice Taylor, Zachery Wurzler, Austin Kerby, Brooke Finlinson, Brandon Finlinson and Nicholas Finlinson.
