Bearettes wrap-up 2007 season at home

Chad Wilson Photo HOMERUN SAVING CATCH-- In her final sporting event for BHS senior Danica Edwards made several outstanding plays including this homerun saving catch off the bat of Bullard's lead off hitter in the top of first inning.
With a 3-2 loss at home last Friday night against Bullard the Bearettes ended the 2007 softball season with an overall record of 9-13 and 2-8 in District 14-3A play.

Prior to Friday's game Seniors Danica Edwards and Morgan McGill were honored with their parents on the field.

The loss of Edwards and McGill will be a tough void for the Bearettes to fill next season as each girl brought leadership and superior skills to the diamond.

Playing centerfield, Edwards led the Bearettes in steals this season with 21 including 2 against Bullard. She also batted .363 with 16 hits this season.

McGill led the team in batting with an average of .368 with 21 hits in 57 plate appearances. McGill was the starting thirdbaseman.

It was McGill and Edwards who accounted for all the Bearettes run in their final high school game.

Edwards led off the game with a single, stole second before advancing to third. McGill singled to drive in Edwards for the tieing run in the first inning.

Chad Wilson Photo SENIOR PRODUCTION-- She's been a star on the diamond throughout her high school career and on Friday night Morgan McGill showed why as she drove in both Bearette run in her final game for Brownsboro.
With the game still tied at one Edwards reached base once again in the third inning. Without hesitation Edwards stole second and was once again driven in by McGill.

Brownsboro would hold a 2-1 lead until the fifth inning as Bullard tied the game at two. An inning later the Lady Panthers scored again taking a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Panthers totaled six hits in the win while Brownsboro was held to five hits.

Last Monday the Bearettes hosted Canton and lost by the score of 6-4 in Brownsboro.

Canton took an early 1-0 lead after two innings before increasing their lead to 2-0 entering the bottom half of the fourth inning.

In the fourth the Bearettes pushed across one run to cut the Eagles lead in half. Brownsboro then tied the game at three in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring 2 runs.

The tie would not last for long as Canton scored two runs in the top of the sixth and one more in the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh the Bearettes scored once just missing a huge inning. Brownsboro had bases loaded with two outs but could not take advantage of the situation.

Edwards, McGill, Randi Smith, Amber Costlow and Krystin Groothuis all had one hit against Canton. Stefani Vause was 2-3 scoring two runs. Brownsboro totaled 7 hits in the loss.

Smith and McGill each had a double while Smith drove in two runs. Groothuis also had a RBI.

For the season four Bearettes batted over .300. McGill was the team leader in average while Smith was the leader in hits with 23. Smith batted .365 overall. Lindsey Wood was fourth in batting with an average of .333 in 18 at bats.

Groothuis was fourth on the team in hits with 15 while Lacy Wilkerson and Vause each had 10 hits each.

Brownsboro looks to be a strong team next season returning most of their starters including pitcher, Groothuis.
