U.M. ARMY coMing to chAndleR

Armed with hammers and paintbrushes, approximately 95 workers with a mission will descend on the Chandler/ Tyler area as part of U.M. ARMY (United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth) the week of July 15- 21.

High school age volunteers and accompanying adults each pay $185 to spend a week helping those unable to help themselves. They will be busy with wheelchair ramps, handrails, porch work, painting, minor roof repairs and much more.

Referrals for work to be completed are given to U.M. ARMY by state agencies, local churches and community organizations.

Over 4,000 participants will compose U.M. ARMY this summer in over 48 different cities helping an estimated 1,500 needy families. Among the many awards given to U.M. ARMY for its 27 years of service are several statewide recognitions: a volunteerism award from the Texas Department of Human Services and two runner-up Governor's Awards.

While in the Chandler area, participants will stay at Chandler United Methodist Church. They prepare their own meals, bring their own tools and purchase their own materials for a week of work that begins at 5:30 am for those on the breakfast crew and ends with a worship time each night.

The Chandler camp will include high school students who have completed their 9th grade year and adults from Bay Harbour United Methodist Church of League City, Moody Memorial Methodist Church of Galveston, St. John's Methodist Church of Texas City, Asbury United Methodist Church of Pasadena and Cedar Creek Methodist Church of Tool, Texas.
