1st Baptist Church of Chandler
by Joanne Davis

Have you seen the table that the ladies put up for their "Mission of the Month" for May and June? The envelopes are out so that you can give $22 for a Child's Heart. The wonderful people at Samaritan's Purse send children from poor families around the world to the United States for heart surgery. It costs about $2200.00 for one child to fly to America, have the surgery and fly home. We are asking you to take an envelope from the table in the foyer, put your dollars in it, marking off a heart for each dollar, then bring the envelope back to the church and give it to Beth, Marti, Julie, or Olivia. Thank you for your generosity.

If you were in one of the adult classes this past week, you probably heard about some of the problems many of our missionaries face on a daily basis. They know that they may face all kinds of persecution, imprisonment, ridicule, and possibly even death, but they continue to do what they do because God has called them to spread the word in one of these foreign countries. Unless we stand up for our faith such persecution could exist here in the not too distant future. Take time to reach out and share your faith with others. We are all called to be missionaries in one form or another. Remember, the word for not just today, but every day is "God loves you." What a wonderful thought! Pass it on. Take the time today to tell someone that God loves them. It can make a difference in their life and yours as well.

Speaking of mission work, Christie Johnson is preparing to lead a group going to Mexico in June on a mission trip. We have been asked to provide some inexpensive toys (Happy Meal type of toys or dollar store toys) for the children and some manicure items for the ladies (hand cream, nail files, clippers, maybe even some polish). Take it to your Sunday School class or you may put it on the table in the main entryway and we will see that the items get to one of the collection points. We need to get behind those who are willing to go out and spread the Good News of the Gospel. Let us support them with our monies and our prayers.

Upcoming events: Brother Danny will start a "Chronological Bible Storytelling" series for Sunday evening classes starting in June. These should be interesting and fun. Missionaries often use this form to help natives understand the principles of the stories in the Bible. It will give you a new prospective of some of the Bible stories you have heard throughout your life. Come join us for this series.

On Wednesday evenings, Brother Danny will be preaching on "Facing Your Giants." He will start that series soon as well. It sounds interesting and I am looking forward to these lessons. Then, the last Wednesday of May (May 30th) we will have a joint session with our youth again. We will begin at 5:30 with an Ice Cream Social. It promises to be a lot of fun. Come join us.

Have you enjoyed the new format for the evening services? Would you like to continue this format? Since we had said that this would be a trial for the Spring quarter, we will be bringing this issue up at the May Business meeting. Sorry that we didn't have enough time to bring it up in the April meeting. We did get some comments at the April meeting, but votes will come during the May meeting. Come express your preferences for these classes. It will be Wednesday, May 9th in the HOPE Fellowship Hall. Time is 6:30 p.m.

Do you have a church home? If not, we welcome you to join us any Sunday morning at 9:45 for Sunday School and at 11:00 for our morning worship. Please come join us anytime. Our Sunday evening services are held at 6:00 and our Wednesday evening services begin at 6:30. We would love to have you join us.
